I'm not sure if I've even seen a Fast & Furious movie all the way through since the very first one, but Fast Five looks like precisely the kind of retarded that I could probably stand to subject myself to one of these days.
And that's all I have to say about this week's DVD releases, more or less! Well, that's a lie: I've got more to say below. Check it out!
 | 1. Fast Five And so it came to pass that a movie in the Fast franchise made $200 million at the box office. And it was good. Or so I hear; I certainly look forward to checking it out for myself. |
 | 2. Scream 4 A tepid final (?) entry into the Scream franchise. Overall it was kinda clever, but "kinda clever" is hardly a rousing sentiment in this day and age. Still, worth a rental if only for the first and last fifteen minutes, if you're a Scream fan. |
 | 3. Buck The real Horse Whisperer finally gets a movie that apparently 400,000 people had to go see! |
 | 4. Submarine I know little enough about this film except that some audience members found it highly affecting. It looked like it was trying a little too hard to be Rushmore 2 to take seriously, but then, my snap judgments about films are usually pretty wrong. Unless we're talking Burlesque. |
 | 5. The Heart Specialist Still one of the worst goddamn movie posters I have ever seen. And I've seen a lot of movie posters. I hope you can trust me when I say that. |
 | 6. Jig A documentary about Irish folk dancing. There's a bar around the corner from me called the Plough and Stars, and they do that there every week. I've always been meaning to go, but I never do! Fun fact. |
 | 7. African Cats: Kingdom of Courage I actually really wanted to see this, but I never did get around to it! Do you remember the part in the trailer where the little cheetah is all wet and miserable and it meows like a big squeak? Or the one where the lion cub gives out a little growl and the mama lion gives out a big growl? Those parts were great. |
 | 8. The Undefeated The unbowed and, for a film about one of the more controversial political figures of our times, the unwatched: this Sarah Palin biopicdocudramamentary made only $116,000 in theaters. |
 | 9. Almost Famous A Screened Bestie gets a new Blu-Ray, but it's apparently called Almost Famous: The Bootleg Cut: Director's Edition. I love this movie, but I don't particularly care for the extended edition (I guess they dropped that whole "Untitled" nonsense?), so I guess I'll stick with my DVDs until they see fit to include it on the Blu-Ray. I can't see why they wouldn't at least include it as an option. |
 | 10. Jackie Brown One of my favorite-er Quentin Tarantino films comes to Blu-Ray for what I assume can't be the first time. Anyway, here's a new version of the disc for your purchasing pleasure. |
 | 11. Pulp Fiction And...here's another Tarantino for you. Have you heard of this film? I hear it's alright. |
 | 12. The Lion King This movie made another $10 million in the theaters this weekend, and now it's coming to Blu-Ray, both in the original film version and as a "trilogy" edition. Also, they apparently made two sequels to The Lion King. |
