MUST...FLEX...HARDER
MUST...FLEX...HARDER

It's always been curious to me how television DVDs come out like a week before the next season of the show premieres. I get it, sure, but you're not exactly leaving a lot of time for people to catch up on last season before launching them into the next. If this week's DVD releases are any indication, though, we're due for the motherload of television premieres over the next couple of weeks.

Also of note (which I forgot to put on the list) is the Star Wars Blu-Ray set that comes out on Friday, for some reason. Let's get ready to weep for our childhoods!

1. Thor

I'll actually be curious to see this again in a non-3D format, and to just give it a second look-over in general. I suspect I'll like it less than I did when I reviewed it, but maybe the lack of post-converted darkness will enhance the experience. We'll find out!

2. Hesher

I didn't quite love Hesher, but it's worth checking out at least once, by any standard. Unless you love seeing Joseph Gordon-Levitt in tighty whities, in which case you should run, post-haste, to your local DVD retailer.

3. Conan O'Brien Can't Stop

I'll be curious to see if this is one of those documentaries that immediately appears on Netflix, or if I'll have to actually rent the DVD. Either way, I'll check it out when it arrives.

4. Citizen Kane

I liked this movie before it was cool. I guess you can like it too with the 70th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition Blu-Ray, but real aficionados only watch it on the original vinyl.

5. Love, Wedding, Marriage

This movie made less than two grand in theaters and has a resounding 0% Rotten Tomatoes meter. That's a pretty spectacular failure by any standard. Of course I can't wait to check it out.

6. Meek's Cutoff

Another one of those 86% critic rating, 60% audience rating Rotten Tomato meters. I've heard really good things about it, but I've also heard it's super-slow. Sometimes those are my favorite films, though.

7. Never Back Down 2: The Beatdown

Someone made this.

8. Pure Country 2: The Gift

Dean Cain made this (!).

9. The Big Bang Theory

This week in television DVD sets: Blue Bloods: Season One, Big Bang Theory: Season Four, Camelot: Season One, Glee: Season Two, Volume Two, Glee: The Complete Second Season, Grey's Anatomy: Season Seven, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia: Season Six, Modern Family: Season Two, Private Practice: Season Four, Rescue Me: Season Six/Season Seven, Sanctuary: Season Three, Spartacus: Gods Of The Arena, Supernatural: Season Six

I'm kind of shocked Thor is already out on DVD/BD.  It wasn't too long ago that you had to wait at least to the Christmas holiday for the summer blockbusters.  The turn around for movies is lightning quick these days it seems.

Doesn't the bastardized blu-ray box set of Star Wars come out this week too?

Meek's Cutoff is godamned amazing. There's a difference between slow-paced and boring, and I wasn't bored for a second while watching it.

@PenguinDust: I'm a bit surprised as well. Dude, how bout Xmen First Class though? That came out after Thor and it hit DVD before it. We live in a weird world. Not that I mind. I really enjoyed Thor and I'm pretty psyched to be picking it up later today.

Have the Conan blu-ray on Amazon pre-order. Probably doesn't need the HD, but I need to give that man more money; he needs it now that his ratings are declining.

That Citizen Kane 3 disc box set sounds freaking amazing. I already own a copy but that sounds too cool to pass up.

Incendies is also out today. Everyone should check it out, but if you do make sure you are not in a super happy mood.

@DeepSpace9MM: That's the 16th I do believe.

The Conan doc has been rentable on Zune for a couple of months. For some reason though, it cost 800 points (around $10).

Oops, yeah. We'll probably have some features on it when it hits, though.

You started three paragraphs with "I'll be curious" or a derivative of it. WHAT?! REPEAT OFFENDER?

Might pick up Meek's Cutoff. But I will probably rent it first.

I have Always Sunny shipping to my house this week. Liked Thor but not enough to buy/own the copy of the film.
