Why do people buy so many dvds? When people just watch the movie once or twice?
Post by Graves (25 posts) See mini bio
Its a collector mentality. And people like myself watch movies more than once.

I like watching special features and listening to audio commentaries and stuff so I like to buy my DVDs.

@Neverpraying:  I buy so many because I then loan them out to friends and family.  Think about this.  How much is the theater these days.  Around $10.  That's just for one ticket.  The average DVD costs $15, and you can watch it as many times as needed.  Hence the loaning out.  Also it's the physical media aspect of owning a disc as opposed to Netflix or Itunes.

To feed the inner collector in most all of us.

Yeah it's all about collecting.

I for one have bought loads of Blu-rays, but only watched a few of them.

Collecting?

I buy a lot of my dvds for around ~$5.  That's cheaper than a movie ticket, so it's definitely justifiable.

Collecting.  Plus, I like the idea of finding my stack of dvds 20 years down the road and watching them again.

I'll just be yet another guy who has seen all the other posts saying the same thing as mine but still want to raise my post count without admitting it. Either that or I'm an idiot who wants to make it really clear to you what the issue is, as if all the other posts which say the exact same thing had not yet made it clear to you.

Collecting. Also you can get back to them and re-watch them whenever you like, it's pretty cool.

Yep, I'm also doing it for the collecting aspect. Being able to pick and choose a movie from your shelf at any time is awesome.

Not to mention you can get a lot of DVDs for much less than a movie ticket, as well as being able to watch the movie more than once.

Collector aspect and to have a movie there when you feel like watching it again at any time.

I like Commentaries and  some of the more interesting extras, and its always nice to have  a film you want  to watch right there and then.
Outtake reels are never funny though...ever

This pretty much sums it up really. It's always nice to know it's there if you ever get the urge to watch it.

I buy it because after I see a movie and want to watch it again, say a few years later, and it's not on TV, how else will I see it.

Meh. I've never bought many movies. Back before netflix, I got them at blockbuster.

Now, with things like netflix and hulu, I feel like I'll never buy a movie again.
