Would you ever not open a DVD/bluray? (mainly steelbooks)

I think I'll start getting more steelbooks for movies I want and of course I will open them and watch the move, however some people actually don't open the DVD/bluray and leave them alone! Would you guys ever do this? I understand keeping them in good condition, and when you get a collectors edition leaving the extras in the wrapping and only taking out the DVD case, and if it's a extremely rare steelbook like Iron man, sure, but I found someone who has a whole shelf of unopened bluray steelbooks. It's crazy!

Is there something wrong with opening them and putting them in plastic sleeves to protect them?

Well when I buy a DVD it's to watch it, and if it's a special edition I pay the extra money to actually watch the extra content, so I always open my DVDs. But you know, each to their own I guess. I have hordes of comics all tucked away in nice plastic sleeves, of course I read them first so I guess it's not the same as this guy.

I always open my movies. I don't buy them just because they look nice on a shelf.
