Most of us here on Screened have pretty large DVD collections, but what was the DVD that started it all? Whether it was a gift or a purchase.

My first DVD was The Fast and the Furious. Not a bad movie to start my collection off with.

What about you?

I have no idea.  I've had a DVD player for at least 10 years and have a horrible memory.

My dad started DVDs before they were popular so their weren't that many movies to choose from. Along with the first DVD player, the first DVD that he bought, for me, was Space Jam. On a side-note, that DVD player is still fully functional today.

The first I ever watched was The Scorpion King, but I bought four at once, which were Howling VI, Deadly Instinct, Night of the Living Dead, Frankenstein. I still haven't watched Deadly Instinct (and I bought it in 2003).

my Dad's first DVD was Office Space or Tombstone... good choices, in my current opinion.

My first DVD player was a first generation Toshiba from Service Merchandise that retailed for over $300. Although it;s religated to the basement TV, I still have it to this day.  With it, my first DVD was Pleasantville.   I still get a tingle in my heart whenever I see this film.  At the time it was one of the most beautiful things I had ever seen.  It still amazes me that a DVD player can be had for less than 10% of what that original player cost.

Not sure if it was Clerks or Mallrats but it was definitely a Kevin Smith movie.

I believe it was a vanilla version of The Man in the Iron Mask

Hardly a classic, but there it is.

Resident Evil, which I actually bought our first DVD player for.  I was young and naive.

I bought two movies first up, THE EXORCIST and THE WILD BUNCH way back in 2000.

They were in those awful cardboard 'snapper' cases Warner Bros films came in back then. And they were flipper discs, too. Ugh!

My very first DVDs I got through that promotion 800.com did back when they launched (may they rest in peace). I think it was in 1998. Anyone who wanted could sign up to get three free movies with no obligation. I didn't even have a DVD player at the time, but I signed up anyway. I believe the movies I was sent were Clear and Present Danger, Austin Powers and The Fugitive. I think it was about a year before I could save up the money to buy the first $300 DVD player released that supported DTS (not even decoding, just one that could pass a DTS audio stream from the disc to the digital coax out).

When my dad got our first DVD player, we got two movies. One of them Blade Runner, and other bing a more family-oriented movie that I can't recall.
