Regarding Uploaded Images

I noticed that some of my more recent works got a lot of points partially due to amount of images I added to the pages' image section. It got me wondering something. What kind of images are we looking for? Is there a sort of respectable limit we could upload? Personally, ever since I got VLC I've been taking a lot of screens. Even after I go back through and delete the ones that won't work, I notice it's still alot.

Really, I try to stick with images that convey a specific/important moment in a film/show: bonus if I have a funny comment to go with it. I'm just curious if there's some unspoken rule of thumb I, or anyone else, should be aware of.

@Paulrus: I don't think there's any official rule except to just be reasonable. Don't upload a bunch of screenshots from the same scene and you're probably fine.

You can pretty much say that you've seen Bound by looking at its image gallery.

Ethan loves images and the more the better, especially make sure to add captions as it drives site traffic. But like pat said there is a limit. Having multiple images from the same scene with the actors only have moved an inch or so is frowned upon. And make sure you organize them into different folders if it gets to be too many.

Do all that and you should be fine, upload to your heart's content.

Okee-doke, good to know. But now I have another one.

Would it be preferred if images didn't have watermarks. I'm about to upload some Regular Show and the only way to get them is through episodes recorded off the TV, resulting in the CN logo appearing on the side. So I'm stuck either with a watermark or cropping images to look standard-definition.

Reminds me, gotta add loads more Attack the Block movie stills. Badass ones.

I'm not positive, but I think watermarks from TV stations are ok. The water marks we're trying to avoid are from competing websites (i.e. don't upload images with an AV Club logo on them).

Yeah, as Pat said, TV network logos are fine - it's just watermarks belonging other sites that are the issue. I remember a staff member clarifying this question sometime last year, but for the life of me, I can't quite locate the specific thread...

Could someone tell me if the widescreen are supposed to be cropped out of the image?, because a lot of people don't seem to do that and I feel the images don't look that great with the black bars on them.

I always crop out the widescreen bars because it bugs me when they're there. It's probably not necessary, but the cleaner image the better, right?

Here's the thread about TV network logos: Question about watermarks

@CrimsonAvenger: I didn't crop out the widescreen bars when I did Hobo With a Shotgun but when I did Dawn of the Dead I did. It is more visually appealing.

If you have it, I recommend Photoshop for removing the bars. You can record a preset action that makes the job less tedious.

Keeping my gallery clean and organized with captions to every image is something I'm proud of. Most importantly is something that entertains me.
