I enjoy watching movie trailers, and I think having them before a movie is part of the experience. However, there is certainly a limit in how much an audience wants to see, and Summit/Lionsgate are long past it. While the standard amount of trailers is four, with very high demand movies getting as many as six, I was shocked to see that The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 had seven full length trailers. Trailers are generally two and a half minutes, so that means it was over twenty minutes before the film started, and that is only if the theater didn't show its own commercials beforehand (I arrived early, so I don't know if the trailers started playing at the start time like they were supposed to).

For those curious, the trailers were for: Beautiful Creatures, The Host, Les Miserables, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, Now You See Me, Oz: The Great and Powerful, and Warm Bodies.

It seems to be a trend that's popping up more often lately. Here is a thread about trailers that appeared before Skyfall. Notice there was about 3 people who had reported to have seen 7 trailers before the movie.

By the way, what did you think about the Warm Bodies trailer?

Seven trailers is a bit excessive. That's more than 15 minutes you got to wait until the movie starts. The thing I like about IMAX is that you typically see one or two trailers only. Saw Cloud Atlas in IMAX, saw trailers from Skyfall and The Hobbit. Saw Skyfall in IMAX, saw trailers from The Hobbit and Hansel and Gretel.

In the UK, this sh*t is, depressingly, normal. Before a film starts, I'm lucky if I haven't had to sit through 6 or 7 full length trailers and at least 14 adverts. I'm the only one who seems to give a sh*t about it, though. Everyone else just has a conversation during them all. If I wanted to pay money to watch adverts... I'd be a friggin' idiot.

Interestingly, when I head further out and go to my slightly independent cinema (which I can't go to that often, seeing as it's an hour away), they only show 3 trailers and the movie starts.

So, I'm sure that in America this is a huge deal that everyone is making a fuss about. For me, a Brit, though, it's a Tuesday.... screening.

I don't have much to add to this topic, except:
