Are there any good movies dealing with depression?

I mean like teenage depression. We all have it when we're young and insecure. I want a film that captures that hopeless feeling, even when in reality life is not that bad. Seems like It's Kind of a Funny Story has a little of that...any others?

Girl, Interrupted and Thirteen are about the only films that come to mind about teenage mental illness and depression.  For older people, there is Prozac Nation, Broken Flowers, What Dreams May Come and Paradise (1991).   Alcoholism and drug abuse are often associated with depression, so films about them would also touch on the topic.

You might want to take a look at movies Welcome to the Doll House, Kids, The Basketball Diaries, and The River's Edge for stories about conflicted, confused, and alienated teens.

You might want to check out Ghost World. Some of the core themes that the movie deals with are alienation, social anxiety, and depression. It's a pretty good movie that I think a lot of people missed when it originally came out.

As PenguinDust mentioned, Girl, Interrupted would be a good choice as well. The book is particularly good also, as it is able to go into more depth than the movie can.

Oh, by "dealing" you mean about depression? I though the movie that help you go through depression.
Man...I'm feeling one for a week now

If you're looking for that hopeless feeling, the performance that pops into my head immediately is Paul Dano's in Little Miss Sunshine.  Some pretty raw shit there for a comedy.

Also, Heathers is an amazing and tragically little-known black comedy that is a pretty interesting riff on high school insecurity and alienation.  Check it out!

It really depends on your source. There are a ton of movies about melancholy and catharsis with family. Its Kind of a Funny Story is basically a poor man's modern One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. I found Bridge to Terabithia to be ridiculously cathartic for me in the same way My Girl 2 was very cathartic, building on the tragedy of the first movie. It really depends on the nature of your depression.

Roman Polanski's Repulsion is kind of about depression I guess? It's more about general insanity but she seems pretty depressed.

Adventureland and 500 Days of Summer both hit on depression, but not super hard; overall I'd say they're both fairly positive movies. But they're both excellent (and from 2009!) and worth seeing if you haven't already. Wes Anderson's first film, Bottle Rocket, doesn't fit the teen years, but the characters are in their early/mid 20s and it's amazing to see how young Luke and Owen Wilson were back then.

How 'bout The Breakfast Club?

some movies that are about depression could help you get through it as well, you know.

Some of these look pretty good, others...a bit too heavy. Thanks for the suggestions!

Aside from movies, I suggest you read these books about teen depression
Ask Me If I Care: Voices from an American High School by Nancy J. Rubin
Chocolate For A Teen's Soul: Life-changing Stories For Young Women About Growing Wise And Growing Strong by Kay Allenbaugh

Hope this helps.

500 Days of Summer was super depressing.

I second this. Its a great fun movie, but damn does it go pretty hard with things like depression. The pier scene near the end is fantastic.
