Looking back on his Filmography now I'm kinda disappointed in myself that I actually sat through Bedtime Stories and bloody Zohan.. At least I knew better to turn off Grown Ups 20 minutes in..

And as you started alluding to it what could possibly have drawn Al Pacino into making this movie? where those coffee commercials not paying enough?

I still stand by Jim carrey being the talented adam sandler (no evidence recently)

Great article Sadie! Adam Sandler has just totally lost it these days and I'm not sure he has a funny bone left in his body. And why did Al Pacino decide to do it as well? He couldn't seriously need the money because he's done enough movies to the point where he should be set for the rest of his life. Can't you just wait for the Candy Land movie starring Adam Sandler?

it is hard to believe that every year an Adam Sandler movie came out, there was a worest movie, or is this the year, that we had all awesome movies, and the only bad one was, and Adam Sandler movie!

Adam Sandler? doesn't he each year? XD

It's been a very long time since I actually enjoyed a Sandler movie..

I feel about Adam Sandler the way that many people feel about the original Star Wars movies: The new stuff actually makes the old stuff worse upon seeing it again. I watched Billy Madison recently on the teevee, and I can't say that I was as positive about it as I was a when I first saw it.

I chuckled more than once. Good write up - I'm not as nervous as I was before. I am, however, anxious to learn more about you, mysterious Hollywood Douchebag!

@AmorVincitOmnia: oh, man, you've GOTTA see it. It's not only a triumph for him, but just as a film in general... But honestly, he gives an AMAZING performance.

Wait, is this story based on the premise that Adam Sandler is a good actor?

My first impression is that I could definitely get along with someone that would choose Sabrina Scharf in the role of Miramanee as their avatar.

The quality of Sandler's movies hasn't changed much - they've never been particularly good. He's just doing the same bull over and over again, getting more and more lowbrow each time. Happens when you don't actually have any talent. His "good" movies don't hold up anymore (at least for me).

I think a more interesting direction for this article would've been a discussion of Pacino, arguably an all-time great who now can't seem to make ANYTHING worth watching (or isn't trying to make anything worth watching). I mean, did anyone else see 88 Minutes?

Not many artists can stay funny for ever. The trick is just stopping when you should, which Sandler at best is just unaware of and he's so passionate about the craft of fim making that he just can't stop, and at worst is just a greedy fucking asshole.

Still, I'll never forget when I was a kid on a road trip with my Mom and she had to pull the car off to the side of the interstate because she was crying, laughing so hard at this:

More Punch Drunk Love, less everything else.

@gangly: That was, without a doubt, one of the longest 8 minutes I've ever sat through. I kept waiting for them to do something else. Oh well, to each their own I guess.

Sandler is living the dream, he makes the movies he feels like making with all his buddies and makes out with smoking hot chicks and rakes it millions without effort.

The times he has gone for something and put the effort, Punch Drunk, Funny People and Reign Over Me, they have been quite overlooked, so why not just have a blast with your buddies.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like it's less that his movies have gotten worse and more like his early audience has grown up. I loved Billy Madison as a kid and hold a certain nostalgia for that era of his movies, but there's a scene in that movie where Sandler tricks an old man into stomping out a flaming bag of shit. That's a great scene, don't get me wrong, but it seems just as inane and childish as the stuff Rorie pointed out in that Grown Ups video. I get the impression that some people want high-brow comedy out of Sandler, which is an indication that perhaps their own tastes have changed.

Or hey, maybe stuff like Jack & Jill really is just flat out terrible. I don't know.

@Hawkeye: Hey, I didn't make you click it! ;)

I would say though that I actually like that skit solely because of Kevin Nealon, so even though it's on one of Sandler's albums, I can't even really give him credit.

While this was a fun read, it's a bit informal for my tastes and almost reads like a blog post. Not that I'd necessarily do better on my introductory article, just a mild bit of criticism. Welcome to the site. You'll find a balance in due time, I'm sure.

The shelf life of comedic actors is generally pretty low if they have only one schtick. Take the other members of the "Frat pack" for example. Vince Vaughn, Owen WIlson, Ben Stiller et al. The only ones who have been able to maintain a "respectable" consistency in their filmographies are the ones who diversify. It happens with actors of all types, but since comedy is something that becomes easily tedious or unfunny very fast, that's where it is the most noticeable.
