I'll just say the same thing here as I did in the similar thread in GB. Alien is one of my all-time favourites and the only masterpiece Ridley Scott ever made. Blade Runner and the DC of Kingdom of Heaven are alright as well. Otherwise he is one remarkably dull and mediocre director, and resembles his brother in this aspect.

I don't think Alien is a great movie, just a very decent effort and I don't remember Gladiator well enough to comment on it so I go with Black Hawk Down, perhaps a bit one-sided in its politics and the special effects haven't aged particularly well but it's an exciting movie and technically amazing and the cast does a great job.

Why did you make this thread on here and Giant Bomb? And why did you leave out like half of his filmography?

ALIEN is easily first, followed by the KINGDOM OF HEAVEN director's cut.

BLACK HAWK DOWN was garbage. Just two hours of ceaseless, incomprehensible war porn. Bruckheimer wanted an Oscar, and thank Christ he didn't get one for that cynical, contrived nonsense.

@CashBailey: I actually dug Black Hawk Down. Not a huge Josh Hartnett fan but I think he was okay. Good art direction.

And I would say Gladiator was my favourite of the bunch listed. Alien is a close second, but I hate how it's classified as "horror." It's really not that scary at all in my opinion. Maybe it's a generational thing...

Agreed. I find Black Hawk Down to be nearly unwatchable in the post 9/11 era.

Alien gets my vote, with Blade Runner coming in second. Two great Sci-Fi films.

Blade Runner. End of Conversation. Second is Alien

Once again I'm going with my longtime favorite Alien with The Duellists in there as a sentimental second placer-er.

I love both Blade Runner and Alien in equal measure.

I think people are being too harsh on black hawk down, it's exactly what he set out to make, and what he set out to make was an unpoetic and brutal representation of war. That being said i have trouble picking a favorite because he's directed so many modern classics but i gotta give kudos to the director's cut of "Kingdom of Heaven" mostly for it's interesting tone and awe inspiring visuals. Also, you forgot to throw "The Duellists" up onto that list, it's not his best film but it certainly has more of a place up there then Robin Hood.

I have hopes for The Counselor (screenplay by Cormac McCarthy).

Wow, that's a tough one, but between Alien and Blade Runner, I'd have to go with Alien. An amazing, ground-breaking piece of work.

Blade Runner just barely eeks it out ahead of Alien for me.

BARELY.

His best is definitely Alien in my opinion, but for a movie that I would most want to watch again it would definitely be Black Hawk Down. Absolutely love that movie.

I have only seen half of Blade Runner so I can't really judge it.

I seen both Alien And Blade Runner for the first time last year and they both easily became favorites of mine. I think Alien Is the Better Movie but I like Blade Runner more. Gladiator is the movie I like less and less with every viewing, really don't know why.

@xobballox: You need to go see Blade Runner now. Like ASAP.

Seeing this list, you realize that Ridley has had a PROLIFIC career, and he's managed to mostly avoid shit. After seeing this title I wanted to say Kingdom of Heaven, but Blade Runner is my favourite movie of all time so obviously must win. Also, I for some reason always thought that Black Hawk Down was Tony Scott movie. durrrr

The only one I really like is Black Hawk Down.

Really tough choice for me as Ridley Scottt is probably my favorite director. In the end I went with Kingdom of Heaven DC as I cannot fault the film, a close second would have been the Duelists but was not on the list but all of his work is so good it was a tough choice. Now I am thinking it should have been Blade Runner or Alien, this decision could haunt me!

If it was the Final Cut of Blade Runner, that would be the winner. If it's theatrical, stupid-narration/ending Blade Runner? Alien probably wins, then. I'd also like to say that I think Hannibal is great, even if it's not on this list. I know, I'm a weirdo.
