The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, Prometheus, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Django Unchained, Battleship, The Amazing Spiderman, Resident Evil: Retribution & The Hobbit aren't exactly what I'd call movies your girlfriends will want to see. Maybe Moonrise Kingdom will attract both sexes? But that's about all I see from Hollywood right now, so it might be a good idea to be Single for 2012 & get back together in 2013.

Sounds good. I'll have to find a girlfriend so I can leave her, pronto!

There's been 5 Twilight movies in 4 years. I deserve to see something decent for once.

I disagree. There still a ton of movies that both sexes could watch. Such as

Brave - You need to be souless to hate a pixar film (except maybe Cars and Cars 2)

Step Up Revolution - Girls can pay attention to the romance, while guys can stare at the scantly clad lead girl.

God Bless America - Male or female you can still hate the Kardiashians.

The Sound of my Voice - Movies about cults rock! In addition, Ellen Page is very pretty.

Jersey Shore Shark Attack - I don't know how but this will make a ton of money and everyone will go see it.

I know a lot of girls that are into most of those movies actually, and they're surprisingly not nerdy at all. Lets face it, everyone loves batman.

Yeah, I don't think this year is much different than most. Every summer is full of over-the-top action movies. Plus, there are plenty of girls who like seeing these types of movies.

I'm sure plenty of woman wouldn't mind seeing some of those movies. And I'm sure plenty of romantic comedies and "girlfriend" friendly films will come out.

I guarantee you there are tons of women lining up to see Chris Hemsworth in Avengers. Trust me, ladies will be just fine this summer.

What kind of girls are you dating

Ditto to everything already said here. If a chick won't see a great movie because there's no "let's put on makeup!" montage, no one should give a fuck. Likewise, a dude who can't appreciate a non-explosion related flick is an idiot.

Also, you added The Hobbit to that list?! I'd wager that THE MAJORITY of Tolkien fans (at least younger ones) are girls.

I went to see The Avengers with a lady friend, we both loved it.

@obscurefan: You'd be surprise, Tom Hiddleston is actually the one with the crazy fangirls, it's mindblowing, the whole New York comic-con press conference was girls telling him how cute he was.

Any girl that doesn't want to see Prometheus, Dark Knight Rises, or The Hobbit isn't a girl I want to be dating anyways.

2012 is a shitty year for movies. Leave your girlfriends, folks!

I'm a girl and I'm definately excited for and want to see: The Avengers, TDKR, Prometheus, The Amazing Spiderman and The Hobbit. The others mentioned in that first post haven't piqued my interest ...YET and that has nothing to do with the fact that I'm a girl. It's just my personal taste. I don't think the variety coming out this year is too different from previous years either.

Ugh, great to know sexism is alive and well on Screened. I know my wife is wanting to see The Avengers and TDKR. She wasn't a fan of most of the other Marvel movies (except the first two X-Men movies and First Class) and really enjoyed TDK though probably not as much as I did. The summer blockbuster is nothing new and I think they appeal to a wider audience than most other movies during the year. The beginning of the year seems to have more rom-coms than usual but they're usually spread out evenly. I know I see my fair share of rom-coms but then I'll drag my wife to a horror movie though she generally hates them. It's all about compromise people.
