For my mobile media class my professor asked us to bring in examples of films that uses cell phones in a somewhat meaningful way. Could be practical or thematic. The film we watched was Sky of Love which was very sappy love revolved around the use of the cell phone. My examples so far are the ever so obvious Cellular for its use of the phone, and also Hook for an example of attachment/thematic meanings and such. Anyone else have any good ones?

Online Now

In TRON: Legacy Sam Flynn uses a Nokia N8 to get into ENCOM.

And in Taken when the daughter get taken she shouts out the appearance of her kidnapper to Liam Neeson who is on the other end of the phone.

-Could you use a tv show? Because I'm pretty sure The Wire uses hundreds of cellphones.
-In the end of Mission Impossible 4, everybody gets free iPhones.

In Live Free or Die Hard Justin Long's character uses a cell phone to hack into some satellites and stays in constant communication with the "Warlock" character.

When asked how he has done this, he goes, "Its all up there, I DUNNO" /plothole

In any case, cellphones are used as the primary means of communication until the the nationwide infrastructure is basically destroyed. And even then they are still used in significant ways.

^^ Phones in The Matrix are pretty key. Mobiles are the only way to communicate with those outside the matrix whilst inside the matrix. It's almost like speaking to a god who knows what's coming next.
