The Broadcast Film Critics' Association Awards, or Critics' Choice Awards for short, are not the most widely known award, but they likely should be. Unlike the Academy Awards, which are given by people in the film industry, and the Golden Globe Awards, which are given by an exclusive and finicky club called the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the Critics' Choice Awards are given out by a large body of film critics, probably the largest group that votes on awards. Also, instead of having Short Film prizes like the Oscars, the Critics' Choice Awards give out trophies to "Best Action Movie," "Best Sci-Fi/Horror Movie," and "Best Cast.
Anyway, Thursday nights the Critics' Choice Awards were announced. Argo won several big awards including Best Picture, though it lost in its screenplay category (to Lincoln). Interestingly, Ben Affleck took home the directing award despite not being nominated in that category at the Oscars.
