Right after I saw Drive for the first time I have been paying close attention to when it is being released on DVD. I've done the same thing for Community but other than that I don't really pay attention to release schedules of films that I really like. Is this common? Or is it just a by product of the dwindling DVD market? What movies get you up off your ass holding your breath for that DVD release?

Normally I would say no, but if you go to Best Buy or Target looking for a specific movie thats been released more than a year ago you will never find it. So its a good idea to pick up what you want while its available on the shelf. So I'd say its a really good idea to get the movie you want while you can.

Nothing. I don't really buy new releases like ... ever. I pay attention to what Criterion's releasing, and twitter usually informs me well enough if something amazing is coming out. But for the most part I catch everything new in theaters that I care to see and outside of that I wait for netflix. Buying movies is so aughts.

I could care less about most new movies on DVD. re-releases and first releases of older/rarer/weirder movies can get me excited

At this point, I barely buy Blu-Rays anymore (at least as compared to when I used to), plus the release windows are getting shorter and shorter that it's really only about 3 or so months until a film gets released on home video. If I really, really enjoy the movie, I'll probably go pre-order it on Amazon whenever I stumble upon its listing, then get all surprised when I get an email delivery notice like 6 weeks later.
