On Halloween 1996 my Dad decided that the two films we were going to watch would be, Poltergeist and Evil Dead. I was born in the April of 1991, making me 5. Poltergeist scared me so bad that I wouldn't stay in a room with a TV because there was a chance that it could go to static and I would be kidnapped by ghosts.

It got me wondering, How old were you when you saw your first Horror film?

My brother was a bastard, and made me watch The Fly and Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) when I was 8.

Not exactly sure of the first one, but the first one I remember mentally affecting me was Poltergiest. Probably around the mid 80's when I watched it so I was probably 6 or 7, could not sleep during a thunderstorm(trees outside of my window). Could not look in a mirror, could not have stuffed animals near my bed, the star spangled banner at night on my t.v. would send me into fits. And I had to jump off of my bed for fear of an arm grabbing me from below. If you want your kid to watch less t.v., let them watch that.

Hmm, not sure what the first was.  All I know is I have memories of watching a lot of horror movies in my youth. Stand outs would be the Child's Play and Nightmare on Elm Street series'.

I remember an uncle of mine had one of the very first VHS players (which weighed half a tonne) and somehow he had a copy of JAWS on tape. Whenever we visited I would always insist on watching it. It was horrifying and exhilerating every time. My parent and everyone else would go downstairs to drink and play pool, leaving me to watch this incredible piece of work.

And my Uncle lived on a lake, so I could always see the moon shimmering off the water outside as I watched it, which fucked me up even further.

To this day JAWS remains my favourite film of all time. So thanks, Uncle Jeff.

I think either Friday the 13 or Texas Chainsaw Massacre were the first horror movies I watched.. around when I'm in Grade 1

I must have been about 6 when I walked in on my parents watching Beetlejuice.  Despite their warnings, I glanced at the TV at the precise moment near the beginning of the film when Geena Davis' character Barbara rips her face off and her eyes pop out of her skull.

I slept with the lights on for about 4 years after that, but now, Beetlejuice is by far the film that I've seen the most (honestly, 50+ times) and horror is my favorite genre.

It's funny how shit turns out sometimes.  ;)

Oh gosh I couldn't possibly remember exactly how old I was. I always tried to watch as many monster/horror/sci-fi films as I could back when you could only catch them late at night on some sort of all night TV movie feature or on the regular horror theatre programs on Saturdays. I remember being pretty young, I would guess 5 or 6,  when movies such as ' The Crawling Hand' scarred me into sleeping with the covers over my head (so it couldn't choke me in my sleep) and I thrilled to the exploits of monsters such as Tabonga from ' From Hell It Came'.  Probably the one that scared me the most was ' The Haunting' though, to the point that it still kind of gives me the heebee jeebees.

Man, can't remember the exact age but the first horror film I remember seeing was a Friday the 13th one, think it was the one with the motorcycle gang. Watched the film in total darkness, which didn't help...

When I was a very young kid, which in turn started my deep fascination with Horror Movies and in general, scary things.

When I was young I avoided horror movies like the plague. I was scared of everything back then. But when I was 11 or 12 I saw Pulse, against my will I might add. The movie scared the bejesus out of me and I couldn't use a computed for days. Since then horror has become one of my favorite genres.

I watched Sleepaway Camp with my brother with I was 6? He was having a sleepover party and I snuck downstairs and watched it with strict orders not to tell my parents.

The second move they watched was Body Heat. I had a lot of questions after that one.

I don't know the exact movie or how old I was, but one memory that stands out is when I was about 8 or so, over my aunt and uncles house.  They were watching creepshow, and the part where Leslie Nielsen had Ted Danson and Gaylen Ross buried up to their necks in the sand and the tide rolls in.  When they came back dead and all covered in seaweed and Nielsen shoot the one in the head, that freaked me out for a good couple of years.

I got freaked out pretty easily as a kid and I remember seeing one of those horror film compilation movies on tv where a bathtub fills up with blood and a hand reaches out of it.  I have no idea what movie that's from, but I had to check behind the shower curtain for a good couple of years before I was comfortable going to the bathroom without doing it.

My first horror thing was the It miniseries, and looking back, that shit was terrible and not scary at all. I also watched Thirteen Ghosts. It kept me up for nights. I was a little dipshit back then...

I watched Poltergeist and Salem's Lot, both of them scared me to death when I was a kid.

When I was about 5, I snuck into the living room and hid behind the couch while my sister and a friend were watching The Exorcist.

Pretty sure I peed.

Although I wouldn't quite call it horror I saw Jaws at roughly 6 and it remains my favorite film since. The only way I can figure out how old I was when I first saw it is because when I was 7 my family and I went to Universal Studios Florida and the one thing I wanted to go on more then anything was the Jaws ride. Needless to say the ride scared me half to death.

At roughly the same age I saw "It" on TV and it ruined clowns for me.
I also saw Child's Play around that time on TV and that gave me pretty terrible nightmares.
