the hunger games is a different take on the same concept.

I've also seen Battle Royale/Hunger Games at least like 5 times. The concept wasn't new in 1999 either.

I'm thrilled that this new flick has brought BR back into peoples minds, but any "Hey, no fair, they're copying!" is really just pointless. I mean, these kids aren't Asian AT ALL!

What do you call a Hunger Games with cheese in France?

A Battle Royale with cheese.

...

Ok, I'm leaving now.

There's nothing new under the sun, and that's especially true in Hollywood.  Seeing what filmmakers do with already-used concepts is half the fun, really.  But, yeah, I think the joke JeanLuc mentioned is pretty much the only productive thing to come out of all of the "It's exactly like Battle Royale" whining.
