Jack Thompson will not be happy with this.

In news that should surprise no one, Mass Effect might be heading to theaters near you at some point in the future. The Hollywood Reporter is, well, reporting that Legendary Pictures has snagged the rights to the sci-fi gaming franchise with an eye to bring it to the big screen at some point in the near future. Says Avi Arad,

Arad described the game as “a parable whose conflicts mirror the ones we currently face in our own world.  This story emphasizes the need for all cultures to learn to work together.”

Sounds like this guy is an alien-lover. I don't know about you guys, but I interpret the story as being more about humans being the ultimate ass-kicking force in the galaxy and having to show those Asari and Turians how things are done when the crap hits the fan. It's also a little bit about sleeping with anything that moves. I kind of hope they take the movie in that direction, honestly.

Your challenge: pick three supporting characters from the Mass Effect series that you'd like to see in a movie. I'm going with Legion, Miranda, and Thane.

I really like them Mass Effect and would to see a film, im hoping that since the Games have such a a close presentation and "feel" to film (relative to other games) that the film is more likely to be good.

As for the three supporting characters it would have to be Tali, Garrus and Joker.

I would love a movie that was based on the 2nd game without all the damn space mining!

My three supporting characters would be Miranda, Mordin and Thane. Although I did like Kasumi in the DLC.

Joker NEEDS to be in the movie, if only for comic relief. He doesn't even have to be in too much of the movie. I just want him to be in it. I feel the movie also needs at least one Krogan in a supporting role. And I agree with Legion all the way. Also, who would play Shepard?

Will Shepard be a Paragon or a Renegade? They should film two versions and let the audience decide.

Oh, and Wrex, Legion and Tali.

Wonder if they'll use this opportunity to reveal what's behind Tali's mask...

Wrex, Anderson, and Wrex.

Tali, Garrus, and Joker would be my pick.

I still don't think this is a good idea though. Presenting a canon story on the big screen will kind of take away from my playthough's story, I feel like. I dunno. Need more information.

Asteroids, Where's Waldo, Monopoly and now Mass Effect. I wonder what's next.

@rodiard:  It would be hilarious to watch a M.E. movie that had different scenes throughout depending on which theater you went to. It would be like the post-credits scene of Wolverine Origins, but more so.

YESS i want there to be a stereotypical human general who hates aliens and clashes with commander shepard but then slowly learns to respect those alien freaks.

I say Tali, Wrex, and Ashley.

I love Mass Effect, but as a movie? I fear it will just end up being TANG material. If they just set it in that universe and make it about someone other than Shepard then it might work. I think Shepard's story is already being told and I don't really want to see that story again condensed into convenient movie form. But if they do make it about Shepard, I guess I would like to see Joker, Grunt and Thane.

Have you finished ME2 yet, Mr. Rorie? I remember you saying on the Bombcast that you didn't like it that much.

Joker, Tali and Keith David.

@Delta_Assault:  I wound up finishing it this weekend. I was not a huge fan. I especially thought that it felt like there should be some big chunk of content in between getting the IFF and going through the Omega Relay. After getting your team together there's like one big mission after that; felt like there should've been another big one before that. But maybe that's just because I played it a bunch, stopped for a few months, and then came back to it to finish it off. Overall I definitely preferred the pacing of the first one to the second one, though.

The surname Arad scares the shit out of me.

A Mass Effect movie is a dumb idea, unless they decide to only keep the universe and create a completely new storyline around it.

I'm pretty sure all of the supporting characters will be in the movie in some form or another. But Wrex needs to have a lot of onscreen time. Liara will be the main love interest, not the racist bitch.

legion, wrex, jack

@Snail: Tetris, I'm sure. The movie practically writes itself: giant blocks are descending on a collision course with Earth's largest, squishiest cities and only a crack team of mildly autistic gamers/starship pilots can push them clear.
