Back in July, a man named James Eagen Holmes walked into a crowded midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colorado and murdered 12 people he never knew for literally no discernible reason. Disturbingly, this seems to have inspired another person's method of carrying out a twisted atrocity.

Balec Lammers of Bolivar, Missouri was reported to police by his own mother on Thursday (November 15) under suspicion he might be planning a terrorist act. In police questioning, he revealed that he had purchased two assault rifles and 400 rounds of ammo and planned to enter a midnight showing of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2. Lammers said he had been considering changing his target to the local Wal-Mart so as to be available to extra ammunition.

Lammers is currently in prison and the police say they feel that everything is safe.

I feel really bad for his mother. It must be really hard to have to report your son to the police, especially for suspicion of committing a terrorist act. On the other hand, I'm glad that tragedy has been avoided.

Holy crap, that's really disturbing. Sorry to say I'm not shocked this is happening in a southern state. I'm just glad his mother took things seriously and notified the authorities. Even if it was a joke, the guy is still going to be put in prison for sometime now (hopefully). I'm not a big Twilight fan, but that's still scary to think people are out there wanting to end lives unnecessarily.

@rem25: I don't know what this being in the South has to do with anything? I mean... the actual massacre happened in Colorado, sooooo?

@NlGHTCRAWLER: It's not really that far-fetched to say a lot of people in Southern states are gun nuts already. You throw in the fact that people are allowed to own semi-automatic guns, which have no place in a home to begin with, and it's a recipe for disaster.

a lot of the major US massacres happened in the north (Columbine, NIU, Aurora...) and it isn't even limited to the US either. this could happen anywhere and to anyone.

Yeah, those are major massacres though you can add the Tuscon shootings where Rep. Giffords was shot in the head and miraculously survived. Perhaps the Virginia Tech massacre where over 30 people died is another good example. If you actually look at the statistics, gun violence/homicides are higher in Southern states where gun control isn't as enforced. I agree this could happen anywhere and to anyone. It's still sick that people can buy semi-automatic weapons that have absolutely no use in a modern, civilized society. You don't use them for hunting; they are weapons of mass destruction.

Well... either way I personally think gun laws should be limited to state vote. Sure we don't really need or use automatic weapons for sport or anything productive, but I feel we are evolved enough to make our own decisions and there have been many cases were automatic weapons saved lives. I actually have no strong feelings as to whether or not automatic weapons should be banned, I just feel the federal government has too much power and things like this just enforces that. If certain states vote for automatic weapons to be legal than I think they should be. Also, the idea that banning guns would somehow lower crime is just ridiculous. If someone has the balls to shoot someone with an AK-47 than they most certainly have the balls to buy one of these weapons illegally through smuggling. The only people this would hurt are the ones who store these weapons for protection, but like I said... i'm am cool either way as long as the people not the government choose what they want.
