I must put a caveat on this recap that I had to shut my eyes for a good amount of last night's episode of Justified. I mentioned it in the what to watch, but will reveal here again, I have a crippling fear of snakes. So much so that I might call myself Indiana Stacey. For this reason, I cannot watch them on screen and have trouble even listening to a scene that involves one of the slippery little suckers. I think I was able to get the gist of everything that happened in last night's episode, but in case I get anything wrong, I do apologize. My eyes were shut. A lot.
We are three episodes in to season four now and it is becoming more and more obvious that it will revolve around the mystery of Drew Thompson…who he is, what he has to do with that bag found in Arlo's house and how he is related to the Detroit crime man Theo Tonin and the FBI. I am interested in this storyline and like that we have been diving into the real meat of the season in such an early episode. However, I find all of it to be a bit confusing at this point. I would assume that perhaps that is on purpose and allowing us to experience the joys of solving the case as Raylan and the Marshalls are, but I would find that device much more effective if it I felt just slightly more informed and didn't spend half the time trying to remember how anything is related to each other.
Raylan's personal life is a mess as his new lover, girlfriend, hot blonde or whatever you might call her has either a. left and stole from him or b. been stolen and bribed by her ex(supposedly)-husband. I am interested to find out, but more so in the way of what the answer will do for Raylan's state of mind. I'm certainly not invested enough in his relationship with bar lady to care if she actually betrayed him or not. I am however, interested to see what happens to him if he is outsmarted by someone that he would have not thought of as an equal adversary.
Over in Boyd-land, there was some crazy shit that went down and as I said before, most of it I couldn't even watch. That scene that found Colt and Jimmy in the middle of a bunch of hissing was something worse than a horror film and the fact that he had a snake head sticking out of his face for the good part of the episode was almost enough to give me a heart attack. Literally. Can I please just ask that after Boyd went and ahead and proved once and for all that Bill is not a snake charmer of any sort that we can knock it off with showing them on screen so often? In Boyd's initial conversation with Cassie we find out that she is clearly more skeptical of the work of the church than Billy even knew. Unfortunately, Billy is going to pay the price for this after he accept's Boyd's challenge and still believes that the lord will save him and puts lets Boyd's rattler bite him (I think?). This also makes me curious as to where this story is going now. With the congregation opened up to the true nature of Cassie's scam and Billy likely being either dead or fighting for his life, I have no idea where it is going. It leaves me curious and I like that.
Before I sign off for Justified until next week I just must say, I cannot get enough or smart-ass quippy Art this season. That dude just makes me laugh.
