Looks like X-Men: First Class is getting a sequel.

That's according to SuperHeroHype. Not especially surprising, I guess: I'm not sure quite where that series could go now that it seems clear there won't be an X-Men 4. I just hope to god that Fassbender's back as Magneto. The only info they have is a writer, though, so who knows.

SuperHeroHype has learned that Simon Kinberg is writing the sequel to 20th Century Fox's X-Men: First Class, which has earned over $350 million since opening in theaters this June.
Kinberg produced the first film and was a writer on X-Men: The Last Stand. His other writing credits include Mr. & Mrs Smith, Jumper, Sherlock Holmes and the upcoming This Means War and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. He is a producer on the latter two as well and is a producer on Neill Blomkamp's next, Elysium.

Kinberg writing the screenplay isn't particularly enticing. I'd rather see the writing team from First Class return; hell, I'd want to see everyone return, particularly Vaughn and Fassbender.

Also, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter?! What the hell is that and why have I never heard of it?

I'd like to see an X-Men movie set in the 80s. That would be perfect.

Simon Kinberg seems to have a mixed catalogue, and this matches up with my mixed feelings about a sequel.

It still seems up in the air on if First Class was a reboot or a prequel. I can only hope they just go full reboot and continue this as a new story because First Class was amazing and I would love to see the continuation.

I thought they shouldn't have bothered paralyzing Prof X. They'll be very limited in what he can do unless they want to have him take a passive role and focus on sending out the current stable of mutants. What I mean is that Charles can no longer go out into the field and take an active participation in the war. In First Class I wish they had branched out from regular canon (like they had with most of the movie) since it seemed so WE INSERTED THIS PLOT POINT BECAUSE WE HAD TO. I enjoyed it though, so I will watch a sequel.

I haven't seen First Class yet but I think a sequel sounds good, if it's set in the 70's.

Maybe this time it will be set in the East side of Germany during the Cold War...

@CrimsonAvenger: I really recommend checking it out, I didn't care for it the first time through, but the second time I really enjoyed it.

@Buckwatters:

Is it as good as X-2?

Not surprised.

@CrimsonAvenger: Hmmm I would say no, it's somewhere in between X-1 and X-2. To be fair, I think X-2 is one of the best comic book movies of all time, right behind The Dark Knight and Spiderman 2.

What's it gonna be called? Second Class? Coach?

Bad jokes aside, I really enjoyed First Class. It was like the Singer X-Men movies combined with James Bond and had Kevin Bacon in full unlikeable badass mode. I'll definitely see it, especially if Matthew Vaughn is attached to direct.

eh First Class was my favorite X-Men but a sequel, especially one written Kinberg, doesn't sound good. My favorite part of First Class was Magneto and Charles talking

if it's in the 80s maybe mutanthood will be like an aids metaphor

Yes! More Fassbender Magneto can only be a good thing. I can't really decide if I like X2 or First Class the best, (well probably X2 when all is said and done) but I love them both, and I really want to see a sequel. For me, First Class was first and foremost a triumph of casting, and I'd like to see those actors back for a new period X-Men movie.

Works for me, First Class was the best X-Men anything since X2.
