I'm thinking about going to my first midnight showing when Batman opens in a week and a half. I was wondering how soon I should pre-order tickets, and how early people would recommend I go. How often does anyone else go to midnight showings? Anyone fundamentally against going to them? Opinions?

I'd buy at least a day in advance so Wednesday at the latest. I'm kind of weird where I bought my tickets last week and bought my Avengers tickets 2 weeks in advance. TDKR will be on plenty of screens but they aren't going to just keep adding ones. When it came to the Harry Potter movies I'd normally show up around 8:30-9 since I don't mind waiting in line for my friends who noamlly would show up about 30 min later.. If it's just you the theater I normally go to lets midnight showings in to the theater after the last screening round 10:30-11 so maybe it's the same there. Bring an iPod waiting in line with nothing to do is ample podcast listening time.

If I do go to them I just show up. If I don't get in I'll try later that weekend. Usually movie theaters will have later showings (around 3 or so) if everything sells out.

I only go to midnight showings for bigger movies. I don't get the midnight showing for every movie now. Especially when those movies don't do good at the box office anyways.

The only midnight showing I've ever been to was for the last Harry Potter movie. I believe I bought my tickets the night before and got there at 9. The line was around the building, but, as I had my ticket, the wait wasn't really necessary. I probably could've arrived an hour and a half later and still gotten seats for me and my friends just fine. Buy the tickets a couple days before, and arrive at 10. If you're going with friends, you may want to go earlier to get seats in a group, and also to mess around.

I'd get your tickets as soon as possible before all the shows are sold out. I know most of the IMAX midnight shows are sold out. As for me, I don't go see many movies at midnight, but now that my local IMAX theatre (the super tall 70mm theatre) allows your to reserve your seat when you pre-order tickets is the greatest thing in the world so I may start seeing more at that time.

I've only been to one midnight showing--The Hunger Games--but it was a blast. It is fun to see other passionate fans and make movie going more of an event.

I've only been to one midnight showing myself and that was Watchmen. It was definitely not worth it though it was interesting to see all the crazy people in costumes show up. My friend and I were unemployed at the time which is the only reason I think we even did it.

I was fortunate to see Captain America on midnight release and bought tickets right before hand, but past experiences have shown me (watchmen) that buying it at LEAST that morning is the best move. I bought my Watchmen one at 11AM that morning, and I got mine at 50% sold.

I feel like Batman will sell out even more quickly than most of the big summer blockbusters, so you should probably grab your tickets nice and early.
