The Hunger Games return with such a sequel twist that you can't believe writer Suzanne Collins didn't think of film when writing. Catching Fire builds up with all types of subversive messaging which is interesting but also brings into relief the limitations of the genre and film.
I recently realized that even though I'm a big film buff, there were a lot of films from the past that I missed for whatever reason. For example tonight I'm watching close encounters of a third kind.
My question for you is this:
What are the movies that you would consider to be essencial to any film lover?
I've been trying to do this for the past couple of years now. I've mostly been going back to things like the Alien movies, the Schwarzenegger filmography (the good ones), Blade Runner, and the Kubrick movies.
The sad thing is out of that list I've only seen schindler's list, tree of life, jaws, alien, and blade runner. My point is... I'm 22 and I've missed a lot of great movies! Can't wait to knock off all those movies over the break. Thanks guys.
