Movie Marathons and poor decisons

So a local theater is doing a special event on May 3rd, and I just took a vacation day from work and bought tickets. They are showing a marvel marathon, in order: Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America, and at midnight the Avengers. I have never watched more than 3 movies in a day, I think I may have let my zeal get me in over my head.

So what do you think, Did I just make a poor decision? What are your experiences with movie marathons?

Movie marathons are always a good idea. I used to often go to a theater here in Philly that would do horror/exploitation triple features, and one big unique bonus that I didn't expect is the crowd. I'm sure we've all had a few movies ruined for us by being with a shitty audience, and the problem is that usually the jerky folks don't respect the experience. But you know that all the people going to a marathon are as insane (re: respectful) as you are, so it's almost a garunteed good crowd.

My only advice; wear comfortable pants, and don't get drunk until at least the 2nd half. And have a great fuckin' time, true believer! Maybe take some photos to share with us too?

Six movies? Fuck that. I can barely keep my shit together through a two and a half-hour movie, much less six. As long as they let you stand up every two movies and walk around for like a half hour, it might be easier to digest all of that.

Going to a theater for a movie marathon sounds brutal.  Movie Marathons are fun when you get a bunch of friends over and can play drinking games and riff on the movies.  The last one I went to was a friend celebrating buying 2 DVD 4-Packs for the complete A Nightmare on Elm Street and booze.  I don't remember anything that happened between Dream Master and New Nightmare

Nope, I can't even watch two movies back to back. Lately I can't even sit through one.

that sound incredible, as long as there are intermission between films. I've never done more than 4 in one day, but 6 sounds like the next logical step.

That sounds really kind of awesome. Hopefully there is some sort of intermission between the movies but that sounds awesome

Forgot something else that'll shut all you nay sayers up. For this Marvel marathon, they're giving out custom themed 3D glasses!!!

somebody misspelled 'Spider-man' as 'T-h-o-r'

Sure, 3 of 'em look kinda ridiculous, but those Iron Man shades are well fucking worth it.

My theater said they're having an hour break between each film so you don't have to sit in there all day. I don't know if that goes for theaters other than Regal though but I assume there'd be some sort of intermission.

They're doing this at a theater near me as well, and I'm thinking about maybe going. I've only seen one of the marvel movies (cap), and it's a great deal.

But yeah, I hesitate because I really don't know if I could sit through a marathon of 6 movies. I may well be falling apart long before we even get to the Avengers...

6 movies back to back?! That's insane! Pretty sure my eyes wouldn't able to take that level of extended exposure to such a large screen (especially if they're in 3D).

I'm not sure what the break situations will be but they told be there will be enough of an intermission after the first 3 to go get a lunch or dinner or something (ie. get drunk). I guess I'm kinda excited about the whole thing, most of these I have only seen once and it'll be a nice refresher. Although I fully expect to be the only person in the theater most of the day, who's crazy enough to take off work to go see a movie marathon on a thursday morning? ^_^

I'm doing this as well in Columbus, OH. Me and a couple friends bought our tickets a couple weeks ago and we are getting more pumped each day. I've never sat through 6 movies in one day before, but I have done the Lord of the Rings extended trilogy which at 11.5 hours might as well be 6 movies.

As preparation, my friend and I have been watching ALL of the Marvel films to date (including Howard the Duck, the unreleased Fantastic Four, and god help me Nick Fury with David Hasselhoff). It's gotten us really excited for this crazy day on May 3rd, and even helping us get ready to do six movies, since yesterday alone we knocked out four of them (Howard the Duck, The Amazing Spider-Man (1977) pilot, Generation X, and Blade II)

It's been a blast and I'd love to get some reactions from the Screened community about our reaction videos, as we are using them to prepare ourselves for starting a podcast about nerdery (but mainly movies) in the near future. This is kinda what I thought as well, but when I went to pick up an extra ticket for my friend visiting from out of town, they told me that one theatre was sold out and they were almost sold out of a second theatre, and these are sizable theatres too.

In preparation for The Dark Knight Rises, I got together with a few buddies and went through all seven live-action Batman movies in one day.

I cut together a time-lapse of the day. This captures all the magic in under two minutes. ;)

I've never watched two films in a theater in the same day, let alone six. Sounds like a headache to me.

I have spent entire days watching the Rocky or Jame Bond films as marathons, and of course I take part in the bi-annual The Twilight Zone marathon on SyFy. But I marathon from my own home, where I can take a few hours off and nap or eat.

My friends and I went to a Lord of The Rings: Extended Editions Marathon of all 3 films. Hit a low point about part way through the Two Towers (which is weird cause that's my favourite film) but got rejuvenated by the end. Would never fucking do that again though awesome as it was.

This sounds like the best. If only because no casual fan is going to this - I'd be going to this purely for the packed, nerdy, amazing atmosphere in The Avengers, and the build up would be worth it.

Alas, they didn't do this in the UK, but we did get the film a week early.
