It's a young woman from Emmerdale, not really watched it to know who she is.

To be honest, I'm going to miss Karen Gillan, she's hard to replace. Also the article mentions details about the new series which has begun production. 14 episodes over two years. So I'm guessing there will quite a break unless they are going with an autumn 2012 start and continue early spring 2013. I'm pretty sure there was going to be some specials planned for this year also before the new series.

So there you have it.

They already said the new series isn't starting until late this year, not in April like usual, so shouldn't be too long of a break if any.

I'm not sure if i'm into it, I thought they were gonna switch u things and have a full time male companion, but I guess they wouldn't be able to fit that sexual tension in there.

@Dylabaloo: Pretty sure the show could still fit that sexual tension in there with a male companion. Just look at Sherlock.

I was hoping for something other than 'young woman', but if they take it in a different direction it could be fine. I'd love it if the 12th doctor ends up being an older man or even a woman, though. I think there's a growing need for a paradigm shakeup in the show.

@litrock: Yeah true, but then all the parents would be all "Think of the Children!". I would really like a huge change as you suggested, I didn't even finish watching the last season.

Cute, but is she clever?

I'm going to miss Karen Gillan so much. I loved her character. It also helped that she was quite the looker, which is something this new girl has in spades.

Attractive lady, no doubt. She comes from Emmerdale though - they're not normally known for producing quality actors, are they?

I'm just wondering how long this companion will last.

@CrimsonAvenger: I guess that's why Torchwood was made. But I agree, if they want Doctor Who to keep growing it needs to leave the kids behind, or attain the Pixar balance.

@Dylabaloo:

I think the BBC should just send all the writers to the Pixar office for a week and then maybe we could some new stuff that doesn't feel like it's overtly aimed at kids (like the 2011 Christmas Special). I hope Series 7 brings Doctor Who back to how it was when RTD was head writer because the show felt more mature then and hopefully we can see Jack Harkness again since the future of Torchwood is pretty uncertain.

@CrimsonAvenger: hear hear! As long as they are kept away from the Cars office.

@CrimsonAvenger: I'd argue the Moffat seasons have been much darker in tone and content than RTD, I mean his first season as showrunner featured a storyline where the army of angels went around breaking people's necks and using the dead's voices to taunt those surviving. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed the RTD episodes of the show but it felt a lot sillier and family friendly than it does now in my opinion, whether that's a good thing is debatable I suppose.

She seems very...boring...but I'll stick with the idea that Moffat definitely knows what he's doing (he always seems to be at least two years ahead of what's currently going on.)
