I didn't find and overrated films topic, or maybe I just used the search forums thing wrong but anyway here is one.

So after hearing about how epic and good "Apocalypse Now" is for well over a year now I finally found some time to watch this movie. And I got to say, I thought it was awful ! I was extremely bored by this film due to well, nothing exciting really happens. They hype up this crazy character so much you are just sitting through this piece of crap just to see him and when you do...It's fucking Marlon Brando! Now I started this movie awhile back watch the first 10 minutes of it and got bored so I totally forgot that he was in here. But his character was the most uninteresting character in the whole movie. Thats not to say that Emilio Estevez's character wasn't either. The best part of the movie was that Laurence Fishburne was in it thats it. Now I'm not reviewing this movie right not but its overrated by a lot. Other movies i think are overrated are "Midnight Cowboy", "Bladerunner", and "The Godfather Part 1 and 2", sorry guys those movies were boring to me. this is just my opinion so dont say fuck you cause its your favorite movies and all this other bullshit. im just curious what movies you find overrated too.

YAWWWWN, we're starting GB type threads here now too? Let me just say this, One man's overrated film is another man's masterpiece.

Avatar .... I fell asleep.

I understand the effects are incredible and revolutionary and all that, great direction but Sam Worthington's acting is bad and the plot just turns so bland about half-way through.

I was disappointed by The Godfather- although I liked the tone and characters it was a little dull.

As a point of reference, what are some appropriately rated movies in your opinion? Oh, and Emilio Estevez wasn't in Apocalypse Now. It starred his father, Ramon Estevez (aka Martin Sheen).

I really like Apocalypse Now, but I can absolutely understand why a lot of people don't. The most well-known scene from the movie is the Ride of the Valkyries helicopter attack, and it gives that impression that Apocalypse Now is a war/action movie, when it's much more of a psychological drama.

Reading Heart of Darkness beforehand gives you a much better idea of what you're getting into.

The first one that really pops into my head is Ghostbusters. Just didn't find it very funny and overall not a very good movie. Especially for all the praise that movie gets. I'm also going to say the original Star War movies. Don't get me wrong I like those movies and think there pretty good but I just don't think there the masterpieces everyone puts them out to be. They are just pretty decent flicks. All and all I think it comes down to age and what you were subjected to when you were younger. If you've een nothing but crazy modern war action heavy war movies and decide to check out Apocalypse Now, I don't think you are really gonna like it. Also if you are not used to watching older movies, some of the classics can be off putting.

This. It seems every 2 weeks we get another one of these threads. Everyone says the same stuff, basically all of the films in the OP. I could not get through either Godfather film, but that doesn't mean they're overrated. The only film I think you can definitively say is overrated, in that people were wowed by its initial release and haven't yet realized it sucks, is the Sixth Sense. Describe why that film is good in 10 sentences without mentioning the twist and I will personally send you nothing. But, you'll prove someone wrong and that in itself is its own reward.

Blade Runner is one of the greatest films ever made. That's pretty much the bottom line. Really this should be the Avatar thread.

I can list off a couple.

2001 A Space Odyssey

Star Wars

Blade Runner

Alien

I'm not sure Avatar's all that overrated, since a lot of people noticed the poor story.

2001, and I really didn't care much for inception on my first viewing though I do own it on BLU ray unopened. Also I didn't think Terminator 2 is all that great.

As a huge Hitchcock fan, I really don't care for Vertigo at all.
