It's been brought to my attention that this site could use a link like this, so...

Need to alert the mods about an issue? Need a question answering? Then use the link below to send a PM to the moderators without the hassle of setting it up yourself!

PM Mods

Please don't abuse this link, only PM us all if you have an issue you could use input from multiple moderators on, or there is a serious issue that a mod needs to sort out as soon as possible. Don't send us a PM asking silly questions like "How do I get points?" or "How do I become staff??" please use your common sense. If you're not sure if you should PM all moderators or just a single mod, then PM one moderator, if they think the others should be involved they will pass it along.

Mad props to Hamz for giving us the guide to make this link, thank you sir!

(there isn't much to this thread, I know, but it will do for now)

@Red12b: No problem, user name is Newten though, though since it's based on my last name which is Newton... I guess you're not entirely wrong to call me that.

Glad to see we haven't received a flood of PMs since I posted this thread, looks like users are being sensible with it, thanks guys.

I've been thinking, do you mods really have to put a stop to weird threads that users like Balls keeps posting? I've seen the GiantBomb mods to the same thing to users like. . .  Balls, vitriolboy, Governmetcheese, BiffMcbumpkin, or many others, and some of them got banned. And Yet, the GiantBomb community is litter with assholes.

There are users on GiantBomb whom troll and flame other users all the time in users' legitimate threads, and for some reason the GiantBomb mods don't penalizes them. At least with people like Balls and vitriolboy don't go into users' legitimate threads to flame and troll. So I must say, Screened.Com mods, don't focus your banning powers on people like Balls, focus your powers on users whom cause trouble in users' threads.  Just think about the amount of good you mods would be doing for this community:

  • Happiness
  • Joy
  • Laughter
  • Fun

Please, Screened.Com mods, don't follow the same philosophy as the GiantBomb mods, they're corrupted and whatever action they take is only for themselves, not for the community.  For example:

In this thread, the OP posted a thread that went out of control, there was tons of flaming and trolling going on, but none of the mods locked the thread. Even when the OP was replying to users with this comment:
Did the mods warn him about his behavior after this? NO!
Did the mods warn him about his behavior after this? NO!

This is the comment that finally got the mod MB to take action:
So I guess saying "fuckU" to a regular user is fine, but when you give a GiantBomb mod a smart-allic remark is way out of line.

So I beg of you Screened.Com mods, don't be like the GiantBomb mods, or else we will never be on the path of happiness.

@RoboCop: That's a bit too dramatic but I guess you raise a valid concern.

First of all, any kind of gratuitous insults will be moderated. Flaming is not allowed here. We are keeping a relaxed tone but that doesn't mean we will allow threads to degenerate into flame wars between inconsiderate assholes. If you think a thread or a user is out of order, just flag him or send us a PM and we will deal with it. It is possible you might catch us at a bad time and none of us are online (there are still only 7 of us), but it's not our intention to let such threads remain open for long. In fact, the first thing I do after logging on to Screened is check for any flagged items.

The occasional weird thread is always good for a laugh. I always found Biff to be the funniest guy on GB but you gotta draw the line somewhere. We are very reluctant on banning anyone unless they are being very disruptive or breaking any wiki rules. We gave Balls a fair number of warnings before sending him on a forum vacation.

If you think we are being inconsistent or perhaps too strict, then please feel free to let us know. Because ultimately, we are all doing this for the Screened community.

@RoboCop: Also Balls was dealt with by a Staff member not a mod :)

I agree with my fellow mods here, and like Mistress_Redhead said, Balls was dealt with by staff, not us moderators, but he had multiple warnings beforehand anyway.
Offensive posts are not as easy for us to spot as the threads are, so like killjoi said, if you see a bad post, please flag it so we will know about it sooner. If a user is being really bad and needs to be dealt with immediately, PM us using the link in the first post of this thread.

Also, there is no need to go badmouthing the Giant Bomb moderators. We do keep somewhat in touch with moderators on the other Whiskey sites and sometimes even ask them for advise, they are not corrupt. Do remember that Giant Bomb is a much bigger site than Screened currently is too, so it's even harder for them to spot everything that's going on, they have a lot more to deal with.

Threads are more important to deal with than posts are, while we do try to keep offensive posts at a minimum, do remember this is just the internet, don't take it too seriously. Ignoring a flame post generally leads to less of them, responding to them usually just fuels them further.

I hate to break it to you people, but the flagging doesn't work. Sure a lot of people flag a spam thread because it's a spam thread; the spam is front in center for everybody to see. As for legitimate threads, I see people in the GiantBomb community post flame/trolls post all the time and I flag them but nothing happens, mainly because the average user doesn't look through an entire thread, so the offensive post will get overlook. As for PMing a mod about the flame/troll post, they would say that it's not flaming or trolling, which I detect that they're lying through their teeth. I have seen regular users on GiantBomb (10% of the community that's not a troll/flamer) that have said that the mods would leave the trolls and flame post alone so it would get out of hand and they can laugh their asses off.

As for the 90% of the GiantBomb users that are flamer/trolls, if they manage to see the flame/troll post, they would take part in the trolling or flaming so they would get rise out of the OP of the legitimate thread. Then, others will take notice, and the thread is derail; and do the GiantBomb mods take action? No. You see, one troll/flame post is like a lit match thrown a forest, then all of  a sudden, you have a forest fire going on. But do the GiantBomb mods penalize users anyways? Well.. . they do, but only to users that disagree with them; and for what you ask? It's for the same actions that other users, that don't disagree with the mods, already do.

You see, I would rather have users like Balls around because I never see him post stuff like this in legitimate threads.
The GB mods would say post like this, is not trolling or flaming.

I gonna be honest, but that made my circuits glitch. Please, don't follow their philosophy, the GiantBomb community is considered the next 4chan community, or in my view, the Old Detroit of the internet. I may seem harsh, but I can't help it. I, RoboCop, do not want the Screened.Com community to end up like GiantBomb community.

Yes that's right, I RoboCop, am admitted to being afraid.

@RoboCop: Well I'm sorry to hear that you're not pleased with the way the Giant Bomb moderators handle things, but I don't really see how going into great detail about that here is going to help anyone. If you have this much of a problem with them, take it up with them, not us.
If you're worried we would just copy or blindly follow the Giant Bomb moderators, don't be. When I said sometimes we might ask them for advise, that's all I meant by it, we will ask them their opinion and take it into consideration when dealing with big issues, that said, I doubt that kind of scenario will present itself very often anyway. As of yet we haven't had some sort of huge crisis we would need help from other moderators with, hopefully we never will.

I wouldn't worry too much, I think we've handled ourselves pretty well so far, since the rush of the site launch has died down we've been moderating submissions quickly, I rarely see the submission queue reach past two pages of submissions, we've dealt with all reports of plagiarism and dealt with all posts and threads that have been flagged thus far.

I personally think we're a good team of moderators, with a mix of experienced mods from the other Whiskey sites (Giant Bomb, Comic Vine and Anime Vice) and new moderators who have picked everything up pretty quickly and are doing a good job.

This isn't a Giant Bomb moderator hate thread, I'd rather not see any more posts about them, and don't go making a separate thread about it either, like I said, if you have a problem with them take it up with them, not us.

Taking advice from Giant Bomb moderators is a very bad idea, that site is in ruin because of bad moderation.

Looks like the PM list needs to be updated after the change in moderators.
