Redbox and Verizon have been in talks and deals for a long time now but for the most part little to no information has come out except for a few nuggets suggesting am instant video service similar to that of Netflix or Amazon. Recently more details emerged about both price and possible content and tiers that would be associated with this service. Link.

For about $6 you would have access to instant streaming that would be available on Android, IOS, and Xbox devices (I assume more will follow). Publicly the only content provider known is Warner Bros. but others like Paramount and Lionsgate are rumored to be included in the closed "secret" beta currently going on. That beta also suggests that the full service will go live on Dec. 17th. Also for only about $2 extra you would received 4 credits a month or Redbox rentals or online downloadable rentals.

Depending on the content this could persuade me personally to switch, specifically the rentals part. Of course like normal people I don't go to some box to get my movies but to be able to download a recently released movie that won't be streaming any time soon would be nice. Especially if that means I could watch that movie on a device or on my Xbox.

I know there has been some dissension among Netflix users, especially after their price hike, but would something like this make you jump ship? Or is it all about content and you're taking a wait and see approach?

i use netflix every day, but i don't pay for it, using the "free trial" loophole. however i have forgotten to cancel after one month and thus get billed again (it is pretty cheap).

I would definitely be interested in this Redbox thing: Especially if they also have the "free trial" deal. I would like to see the selection. It isn't Netflix's fault the big studios aren't giving them good films anymore, but it is frustrating, and this Redbox service could be superior. I am also interested in the Redbox rentals part of the product. I use Redbox regularly since I moved to the city, where it turns out there are no video rental stores.

I know this is completely off topic, but it really angers me that certain movies aren't available for Redbox until weeks after they hit the other rental places. Is that even legal??
