Now that the year is nearing its end, and only a couple of notable movies are left to be released, it's time to look back at the year and take stock of what we've seen. When it comes to my favorites of the year, there were quite a few contenders. The Grey, The Cabin in the Woods, The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, Looper, and Skyfall all jumped out at me from looking through the Screened reviews of the year. But if I had to go with, say three options, I think I would pick The Grey, TDKR, and Skyfall.
I've read people's comments about The Grey, about how they thought it was going to be an awesome Liam Neeson-punches-wolves-for-two-hours movie. Luckily I had read Alex's review and knew otherwise. TDKR got a lot of shit, and continues to get shit, but I think it was an amazing end to the trilogy. Stupid, insignificant plot problems aside, it managed to impress me consistently throughout. And Skyfall was just a spectacle to behold. The cinematography of the film made each scene beautiful in its own way. Even though the whole villain getting captured then escaping thing has been a bit overplayed in recent years, Silva was a fantastic antagonist and had a pretty great introductory scene.
So what are your favorite movies of the year?
P.S. Disappointment of the Year!: Prometheus - Too many dumb things happened.
Runner-up: The Master - Only had one really impressive scene in my opinion. I guess I was expecting a bit more.
