I've been seeing a fair number of ideas for new cliches in the mod queue. However at this time, only the Screened staff can add new cliches to the database. But we are all still very interested in hearing from you.

So go ahead and tell us what cliches we are missing. Please try to give us at least a few examples of movies with that cliche. A good example would be

Dude walking away from an explosion: When a character nonchalantly walks away from an over the top explosion in the background. Example: Bad Boys, Iron Man, Desparado

Here is an interesting one by Ghostiet:

Mexican Standoff:  When three or more people in a crime movie can't figure any consensus, they tend to draw guns on each other. Neither side is willing to shoot for fear of being shot in return, yet neither wants to holster its weapons, in fear of getting shot.

I guess a good one would be in horror movies, when the dumb protagonist decides to go "investigate a sound" and something bad inevitably happens.  Or would that count as a concept?  Or nothing at all?

oh man! i submitted that!

I think that Mexican standoff should be there (without giving myself too much praise, of course). It's been in Miami Vice, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, In Bruges, Three Kings, Unforgiven, The Good, The Bad & The Ugly, and in every one of them it's a pivotal point in the story - either one of its final moments or a gamechanger: in Three Kings it's the moment the movie changes the tone completely and the characters switch their goals in 180 degrees.
Same with the "Dude walking away from explosion". I submitted that and I've ripped it off straight from a concept on Giant Bomb - if it's there, it should be here, because video games borrowed that from action flicks.

This idea is very good, if we have one for "Black Guy always Dies", this is a must. I'd fill it as "Killer Bait", along with the legendary cliche, with the characters getting into the most logical hiding spot during a blackout - the basement.

We have this covered under "What was that noise?

@Ghostiet: I think we are still working on the distinction between a concept and a cliche. It's different from GB because there everything falls under the general category of concepts. It's like how  http://www.giantbomb.com/waking-up-at-beginning/92-4699/ can be called a RPG cliche but on the GB database, it's a concept since we don't have such a category there.

@Killjoi: Yeah, I understand - I had a problem where to post that stuff at the first place.

Is there a cliche for someone getting cut and then continuing as usual and then falling apart like in Ultraviolet?

A cliche in sports movies where the underdog teams gets brand new jersey right before the big game.

Does a character speaking a language the actor doesn't and trying to fake it count as a cliche?  Worst thing ever if you speak the language.  Kudos to Inglorious Basterds for hiring real germans.

How about Meet-Cutes? Do we have those yet? Those are in every romantic comedy ever.

Or another Rom-Com cliche- the random "Everybody starts singing a classic rock/R & B/ pop song", as seen in My Best Friend's Wedding, There's Something About Mary, 27 Dresses (fuck that movie) and many, many other films.

Someone "comically" getting attacked by a small critter or animal.

what about rushing to clean up a party before parents get home?

- Crazy High School Party is probably close enough for this.

edit: oh and what about the stoner roommate? possibly with a strange pet.

Is Stripper with a heart of gold in here? Cause that's a pretty solid cliche to have. I can't think of examples off the top of my head, but its a pretty common cliche to see.

Just realized that only staff can add these, so how about the "grabbing somebody's hand last second" cliche?  Where somebody falls off a building, out a window, et cetera but right at the last second somebody dives to save them?

Another spin-off of that one is when somebody falls off a ledge and the camera pans down to see they somehow grabbed a ledge or branch in time.
