Until we have a source from JJ Abrams, Bad Robot or Lucasfilm to confirm it - or the actual mystery source is confirmed, I am a little hesitant to say this is for sure a done deal. However, it seems to be that it is being talked about by enough sources to discuss. Soo....hey, guess what guys...remember how J.J. Abrams kept denying that he was going to direct the next installment of the Star Wars franchise and said he had no interested in doing so? Apparently, that was a big ol' lie

The folks over at The Wrap claims that they have confirmed that he will in fact be directing the newest Star Wars film after George Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney. He was able to successfully reboot the Star Trek franchise and made a fantastic first film in that series. The second will be released in May and since it stars my favorite Bennie Cumberbatch it should be awesome.

Abrams is a big director with big vision, and his name along with the power of the Star Wars name will likely make this move HUGE....HUGE, I say!!

Now...on to the speculation of who will be cast! This part will be fun. Ready, set, go....

Harrison Ford.

As every character.

If the movie requires Han Solo and Princess Leia to have kids, please make their son Josh Holloway.

He should take the whole Star Trek cast and then cast them in Episode VII roles just for the hell of it.

As long as he doesn't pull off any of the crap he did in Lost, then I will support him.

He might bring a very bright look to the Star Wars universe only not early digital stuff like the prequels. I still want more info on what exactly the time period is going to be for the film.

I don't know why but I feel like Garrett Hedlund should be in this some how and Olivia Wilde.

@RockinKemosabe: YES Sawyer needs to be the son of Han Solo

Expect a whole ton of Lens Flares.

Wow, Abrams is being whored out a lot these days, he kind of get's everywhere doesn't he.

Sure this's good for guaranteeing that the next film will at the very least be nice to look at, but the industry is currently mining Abrams for all he's worth.

I mean, maybe find another director with something to prove or something. Duncan Jones, Director of Moon.

Or Kathryn Bigelow, the director for the recent Zero Dark Thirty. Maybe even Tom Hanks. Someone who hasn't done a HUGE HUGE movie, or has never tried to make a Sci-fi type movie.

Sometimes this is the best thing for a product or movie to diversify a stale product. Not let's keep going in the same direction.

I know Abrams changed a lot about the Star Trek franchise and sure it was fantastic, but come on! Do we really need two film series with the same brain behind it's direction. One man only has so many unique ideas before everything becomes the norm and looks the same.

I was basically going to be fine with any director for this movie... except for George Lucas.

Also @LeaderVladimir: Abrams had very little to do with Lost, really only working on the pilot.

Since Harrison Ford now no longer cares about acting, if you need old Hans Solo in this film might I suggest Bruce Campbell?

this seems like a decent choice. i don't like all of abrams work, but he is very talented and has done some amazing things in movies and TV.

I'm a bit disappointed with this choice. I'm sure it'll be fine, but I kind of wanted it to be a less obvious person. I just hope it's not too crazy with big CG space battles (although, I guess the start of episode III was pretty cool).

Well..I'm not worried. How much worse can the Star Wars movies get? If anything.. J.J. will hopefully bring something new to the table.
