There were red dresses, there were blue dresses, there was Jessica Chastain's weird hair that looked like she was wearing fins on her head. More than anything there was a very entertaining Golden Globes Awards show that for one of the first times in a long time got the winners right. Also, thank you to all of you who came by for the Screened chat last night during the show. It was a good time and fun to get all sorts of perspectives on the awards.

If you missed show, for once, I would say you actually missed out. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler proved to be incredibly awesome hosts. In fact, I think it might have been the first time in the history of awards shows that I wanted MORE hosting, less talking. Oh, and can we just say Bill Clinton?! I mean, whoever made that happen is brillllliant. Kristen Wiig and Will Ferrell's reaction to his presence might have been even better, though.

I also was very happy with the actual awards. Interestingly, they were spread pretty evenly across films. Les Miserables ended up with the most awards achieving 3, including Best Picture – Musical or Comedy. Argo won two, but in big categories (Best Picture and Best Director). Django Unchained took home Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor, Christoph Waltz. The Academy Awards might have snubbed Ben Affleck and not even nominated him for Best Director for Argo, but after last night, he could put up a big middle finger to them when he won the Golden Globe. I also was afraid that Zero Dark Thirty or Lincoln were going to sweep the awards and was very happy that wasn't the case. (I can appreciate Lincoln is good, but in no way think it is award winning. It lacks a lot of things....like a story). Jessica Chastain was recognized for her work as the Best Actress in Zero Dark Thirty, but that was its only award. Lincoln suffered the same fate and received recognition for Daniel Day-Lewis' performance, but was shut out of all other categories.

On the television side, Homeland continued its Emmy winning streak and nabbed awards in all the major categories. Newcomer Girls, was the big comedy winner with awards for Best Comedy and Lena Dunham for her performance on the show. Too bad that wasn't reflected in the ratings as the Season 2 premiere which were slightly lower than both first season premiere and finale. It also made my heart happy to watch an awards show in which everything didn't go to Modern Family. God, I hate that show.

If you add this and the Critics Choice Awards that aired on Thursday night, the Oscar race is becoming more and more interesting. With the exception of Hugh Jackman for Best Supporting Actor that went to Philip Seymour Hoffman at the Critics Choice awards, many of the winners were the same. That makes me wonder if that will transfer into more Oscar votes for Argo, Les Miserables and Jennifer Lawrence? Since she will be up against Jessica Chaistain in that race it might be difficult, but still interesting with what seems to be SLP love.

I am glad Ben Affleck got some recognition after the Oscar snub

How did House of Lies win anything? I love Don Cheadle but his performance is clearly phoned in.

Affleck has become quite the director having an amazing start and an even better follow up. He will be one to watch for when it comes to directing. On top of all that I still like Daredevil.

I hate ARGO, but overall I think they were surprisingly good choices in the film categories (I don't know as much about TV, so I can't judge). I think that Best Screenplay award for DJANGO was a big surprise.

I've got to say that I really think LINCOLN is a worthy winner. I felt it had compelling themes and will stand the test of time better than ARGO and ZERO DARK THIRTY, which are definitely contemporary in feel and politics even if they are period pieces.

I think this has been an unbelievably bizarre awards season. I think ARGO is actually the front runner for the Oscar right now (barely), even without a Director nomination (after all, the Best Director nominees are selected by a small portion of the Academy). It isn't a guarantee at all, though. Also, both Screenplay awards are toss ups. Adapted will be a very tight race between ARGO and LINCOLN and Original could go to MOONRISE KINGDOM or ZERO DARK THIRTY. And Hathaway seems a likely winner in the Supporting Actress category, but I could easily see Sally Field winning instead.

Ugh, I really really hope Brave doesn't win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. Wreck-It Ralph is a much better movie on so many levels. Though I somehow doubt it because it's all based on video games, and the Academy won't understand them...

BRAVE definitely did not deserve that Golden Globe. I don't think it will win the Oscar, though. They TEND to have better taste. Also, WRECK-IT RALPH won at the Critics' Choice. It will probably be those two or FRANKWENWEENIE (though I would be delighted if RISE OF THE GUARDIANS got it instead).

Other then the Animated choice (Brave) I think they did a good job and I'd agree with the choices made. I've watched Brave about 15 times it is one of my daughters favorites but we as a family have watched Hotel Transylvania 4 times since last Tuesday. Quite a bit more popular in the house.

Seriously, there has to be some kind of reasoning behind them not nominating Ben Affleck. I'm not a big conspiracy nut... but there's a big nutty conspiracy in here somewhere.

@obscurefan: So here it is, Miramax Films put out Good Will Hunting. Miramax Films was once run by Harvey Weinstein. He feels shorted on the returns of Good Will and wants to erase Ben Affleck from the annals of film history, much in the same way DC wants us to forget about Stephinie Brown. BOOOOOM conspiracy'd
