IRON MAN 3

Well, from all the Iron Man 3 advertising that has been pushed, they are trying to make it fairly obvious that things are not going well for the superhero in the third film in the franchise. I'm not sure how I feel about that, because I like my heroes served up as badasses, but I can get over that. I like the idea of this poster, but does anyone else find It odd that the middle of the poster - where your eye is inevitably drawn - makes you stare directly at his, um, junk. Also, I know your facial features would morph when falling upside down at a million miles an hour, but that does even look like Bob Downey Jr's face. No matter, I'm still excited as heck for this movie.

JACK THE GIANT SLAYER

Bryan Singer's fantastical adaptation of the stories of Jack and the Beanstalk and Jack the Giant Killer. All I have to say is that is one big beanstalk…big giant....and one tiny little man. I hope he is up to the task! Kill those big bad giants, Nicholas Hoult, who only makes me think about About A Boy when I look at your face.

FROM UP ON POPPY HILL

I am a sucker for a good Studio Ghibli/Miyazaki film and have been waiting for a new one to arrive. This poster reignites that joy with those sweet eyes that remind me of characters in Ponyo and Spirited Away. This film is one of the first directed by Goro Miyazaki, son of the famed Hayao Miyazaki. However, have no fear, Hayao was involved and wrote the screenplay, so I'm sure the charm will still be there. The story revolves around a group of teens who are trying to save their school's clubhouse from being wrecked in preparation for the 1964 Olympics.

THE LORDS OF SALEM

This is horrifying and I hate it and that's all I have to say about that.

THE LONE RANGER

I think we have all seen this key art 20,000 times already, but why is Armie Hammer cut off in this new one? Was that a mistake? It's photoshop 101 that you never cut off body parts unless you can't help it. Just shrink their bodies a little! Do they know nothing of composition?! This makes me angry…literally angry.

Maybe Armie Hammer is holding a big, juicy plot hook in his left hand....

the LORDS OF SALEM poster looks kind of cool. FROM UP ON POPPY HILL is inoffensive. The rest are really bad.

The IRON MAN 3 one is obviously fake--it looks like the cover to a comic, not something from a $200+ million movie.

The JACK THE GIANT-SLAYER poster has weird perspective--none of the objects look like they belong in the same environment. It is never a good sign when a movie is desperately releasing new posters and trailers every day: It shows that they know they screwed up in marketing (or making the film in the first place). It was what GREEN LANTERN and JOHN CARTER did, and it added some money to their grosses (probably), but it marked the movies as flops before they even came out.

As for THE LONE RANGER poster, that is abysmal. The filmmakers obviously want to push their big star--Johnny Depp--but they also don't want it to look like a POTC movie, so they have to show the leading man. Showing only part of him, crudely cropped out (it is just from a still in the movie), is really, really bad art and marketing.

This is probably the scene where they cut the picture from, but then decided to crop it.

@VioletEyedDragon: If you hated that Iron Man poster you're not going to be pleased you when find out that it's real.

Iron Man 3 Poster looks ok not amazing but cool bit of like concept art.

I absolutely adore that Up on Poppy Hill poster. It looks like a old school 90's Ghibli style film which just makes me think of Kiki's Delivery Service which I also absolutely adore.

Ooooo, Studio Ghibli posters never failed to disappoint (for the most part).

I'm actually interested in Lords of Salem. I can't explain why, but I am.

well, to the movie's credit, the same visuals used for a blurry, motion shot should not be held to the same scrutiny as a still image. If it happened in the movie, it would be so fast no one would notice it looked a little fake. it only looks stupid because they took one frame and the cropped it to only show the dumbest part.

@VioletEyedDragon: I think you misunderstood me. I said nothing about the quality of the movie itself. I simply confirmed that the movie poster that you apparently didn't like was in fact an official. poster.

@VioletEyedDragon: Lol. Then I must have been the one mistaken. You sounded like you honestly believed that the poster was a piece of fan art.

I think originally meant that the actual shot of Iron Man looked fake to him. i.e. heavily Photoshopped etc and not an actual shot from the film. A genuine poster but with a fake-looking still to him.

I honestly couldn't care less if the shot is fake or not, providing it legitimately represents the film. If it looks good then that's fine by me. I like the image, makes a change from yet another portrait design (and I refer to movies in general when I say that, not Marvel or Iron Man movies specifically). It conveys that Tony Stark is gonna get his butt kicked and raises questions. Assuming the poster was all you knew of the new film: Who's kicking his butt and how? How much will he suffer? How will he overcome it? etc.

To answer some of 's observations. I wasn't inevitably drawn to his junk. I found myself drawn to Stark's face, wanting to glean information from his reaction. I am also confused by your concern "...that things are not going well for the superhero...". Superhero stories can still be good even when the heroes aren't "...served up as badasses...". Any story is valid, providing it's good of course, regardless of its level of "badassery". Besides, wouldn't it get a bit repetitive to have "badass" stories every time? I like that they are trying something a little different. It makes me more invested in the character if he is not so impervious and has to overcome adversity rather than just kick ass from start to end.

. There is a link to Bryan Singer in the middle of the word "face", when you are talking about Robert Downey Jr. Typo: Inevitbably Inevitably

That Jake the Giant Slayer poster is the worst. How is that a thing?

Post by VioletEyedDragon (1,813 posts) See mini bio

@Acura_Max: @djames216: i must not have been clear. what i meant was that the visuals and photoshops in the poster do not look like what a real Iron Man suit (if one existed) would look like falling from the sky. It might be a still from the movie or a photoshopped promo piece (more likely), it just looks really fake as in "not realistic." i am sure it is official, it just doesn't seem to live up to the visual effects standards set by IRON MAN 2 and THE AVENGERS.
