Tintin or Hugo? (Theatre-experience suggestions?)

Am going to see a movie with the family come Saturday. I'm currently torn between these two films. I'm certain I'll enjoy both to some extent, but I really only have time to see one (and will probably catch the other on Movie Central a year later), so if you HAD to choose one over the other, what is the better movie-going experience? When I say that, I mean in the vein of: The Tree of Life was a better film than Rise of the Planet of the Apes, YET watching Rise of in a theatre was the most badass thing I saw last summer. So in terms of pure enjoyment...

Tintin I have high expectations for. I am an avid fan of the series (since my childhood) and I've heard it feels a lot like Raiders of the Lost Ark (huge bonus), so I could enjoy it on that merit alone. Hugo I don't know what to expect, but the little I know of it sounds intriguing (as do the callbacks to cinema of old I've heard about in reviews). And imo sometimes the best movies are ones you know nothing about. Plus I heard it's just a damn good film.

Thoughts?

Having not seen either movies, I would advise to see Tintin, if only because it looks more action packed and visually impressive.

Hugo is most definitely the better film. Perhaps if your family isn't that interested in films or are bored easily, they won't like it, but it's a thought-provoking, and beautiful film.

Tintin is good entertainment, it's fun, and has some pretty good action. However, after seeing it I didn't really think much about it.

Tin Tin is good and you should try and see it. But Hugo is so good it is on an entirely different level. I think it is one of the best films of the year.

Edit: On a side note that creation scene at the beginning of Tree of Life is significantly more gripping on the big screen than anything else I have seen this year. Watching it at home just is not the same.

I have only seen Hugo, it was a great movie. But like someone said above it is a slow paced film and it depends on what your family likes.

I saw both in theaters although only Tintin in 3D. I'd go with Tintin, it felt like the big summer blockbuster that never was. Was really impressed with it and the 3D was good too. Sadly I only saw Hugo in 2D and on a crappy sized screen, so that experience wasn't as good.

Thanks for the input. I have a sneaking suspicion my folks *may* fall asleep at Hugo (have already fallen asleep at almost all the Harry Potters, Star Wars, and Lord of the Ringses). I'll definitely check Hugo out on my own time, though. The Tree of Life was great and I caught it on a flight (probably the best time to watch a movie like that), but never would I consider it watching it with people. Just the way it is :P.

Tintin all the way. I haven't seen Hugo but I haven't had as great a viewing experience in the theater as I had with Tintin. I saw it in 3D but 2D should look just fine too. It has the grand action adventure feel and has something for everyone, young and old.
