It has been quite some time since I have seen a trailer for a television series this exciting. As I stated in my article about the current State of Television it has the ability to revolutionize the way we watch series and looks like an incredible political drama. The pilot was directed by David Fincher and stars Kevin Spacey in his first series regular role. It was created for and is streaming solely on Netflix rather than airing on any network. If it is successful, along with the return of Arrested Development in the summer of 2013, it could solidify Netflix as a true original content creator.
The trailer looks like it is for a film, not a series and I find the device in which Spacey's character speaks to the camera very interesting and cool. The show follows Francis Underwood (Spacey) who is the Majority Whip and will do any amount of shady political scheming in order to become President of the United States. I was asked if during the podcast if another show could follow politics and do it as well as The West Wing, and my answer was that it would have to have a different entry point that focuses on something other than just the Presidents daily activities. After watching this trailer this is the first time I feel there could be a true contender to fulfill that slot. Here's hoping....
