It's an interesting fact that Guillermo del Toro is most likely considered one of the best directors out there right now, yet he has yet to make a truly big budget film. The Hellboy franchise is probably the closest, but seeing the trailer for Pacific Rim it seems like the money for that was taken from a penny bank.

The robots are huge, the kaiju are even bigger and if nothing else it seems as if del Toro was able to create a truly stylized image of the near future that looks rad. I don't know much about the genre the film is based upon, so coming strictly from a movie lovers point of view, this makes me excited. I also have on good insider info that as much as we see here, there is no way to get a full glimpse at the world in simply a trailer.

I also can't decide if I was happier to see Stringer Bell or Luther. Oh wait, they are both the same amazing person? Even better, I don't have to decide.

Giant monsters vs giant mechs. Done. Sold.

Also note that you can hear the GlaDOS in the trailer. I remember reading about how he was a huge fan of Valve and he asked them to give him the GlaDOS voice actor to be in the movie. :)

Well I'm in.

Charlie Hunnaman seemed like he was just doing another Sutter monologue to his boys. I'll have quiet the chuckle if he ends up doing one in the movie. Yay more Idris Elba

I was on board with just the giant monster premise before, but that trailer literally has me giddy with anticipation.

If I had to choose something to be nitpicky about, I'm a little disappointed that some of the kaiju designs look similar, if not straight up identical. Of course, the movie isn't out for another seven-eight months, so maybe those are just the monsters they had ready for the trailer, and the ones in the movie will look more distinct.

Alright, I brought myself back to giddy. Is it July yet?

Seeing this trailer right after watching Battleship just made it ten thousand times better.

I'm super excited to see Charlie Hunnaman in something other than SoA. Hearing British Idris Elba creeps me out, but reminds me I need to watch Luther at some point.

Call me crazy, but this isn't this what a live action Neon Genesis Evangelion or Gundam Wing would be? At least as far as the people controlling the giant mechs go? I did say I was crazy, right?

Gave me chills watching that. Can't wait! Love me some Guillermo del Toro.

Very, very iffy.

I adore what I've seen of del Toro--The Orphanage, The Devil's Backbone, Pan's Labyrinth.

But that looked like AvatarBattleshipTransformersRealsteel.

I'll wait and see.

You'd like to see this clip then:

Also note that ILM is building upon the tech they did for Battleship for Pacific Rim.

Looks like a pretty great Crysis suit Elba has on!

Great. What with my dodgy knees another sign I'm getting old. A live action movie about giant robots fighting giant monsters and I can say is "that looks silly". Really, really wish I could muster enthusiasm for this for the sake of my younger self but I can't.

this looks really good.

i am a little annoyed by del Toro's use of orange-and-teal color grading. but he used it in all his films, so I guess it's okay.

I hope this isn't Micheal Bay-esque.

You really do need to watch Luther. I chewed through it the past week and it is quite brilliant, imagine a grittier Sherlock. Bring on Idris Elba cancelling the apocalypse!

The Japanese are going to flip over this.

There aren't enough Kaiju movies today, why the heck have those movies just died out over the years? We need more Giant monsters wreckin' cities and more Giant robots just punching shit.

Also, I love how much of a god-damned super nerd Guillermo Del Toro is. Making a movie about god-damned giant robots fighting god-damned giant monsters, and putting the voice of GLaDOS in the movie to boot.
