Hollywood seems to have run out of ideas. I mean they seem to be recycling or remaking every movie that they ever made. I mean, surely they have some originality left? There are a bunch of comic book heroes who have remained untapped and who I think deserve to be brought to the movie screen or as a television series.
I mean they did bring The Mask to the silver screen a few years ago and I never even heard of him until Jim Carrey brought him to life.
Batman and Spider-Man sure don't seem to have a problem. I mean it seems every few years, they come up with a new series starring them, they never get old. Superman, the Justice League, the Avengers, Blade, and a whole bunch of others have had movies and tv series about them.
But I think that Hollywood has barely scratched the surface. There are a lot of potential shows and movies that could be made, yet they seem intent on ignoring them. So here's my list of some series that I think deserve to be made into a movie or tv series.
1. BLACK SUMMER
A 7-issue comic book series about a group of superheroes in "the real world". One of their number gets tired of all of the political corruption and murders the President, Vice-President, and most of the Cabinet. Now, the military is hunting him and his former comrades down. I thought I heard that this was actually going to be adapted into a movie a few years ago but haven't heard anything about it since.
2. BALL AND CHAIN
A 4-issue comic book series about a husband and wife who used to be in love. Their marriage is falling apart and after a fight, they decide to get divorced when a meteorite come crashing down and nearly kills them. Afterwards, they discover that they possess great powers but they need to "recharge" by being in close proximity to one another only they can't stand one another.
There is a lot of potential humor here as the pair could be a real dysfunctional couple.
3. MADAME MIRAGE
A comic book series about a young inventor who develops a prototype invisibility device only to have it stolen and a bomb is set to kill her and her sister. She manages to survive and creates a living hologram based on her sister's personality and image as 'Madame Mirage' to find and steal back her invisibility technology.
Unlike a lot of superhero smash 'em up and explosions stunts, Mirage is a lot more subtle in the use of her powers which are holographic trickery, disguises, false images and misdirection which I think could be a real interesting change from most superhero films in recent memory.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? I'd like to know what you all think.
