What Does Anyone Have Against Blake Lively??

According to filmschoolrejects and screenrant, Blake Lively was slated to appear in Steven Soderberg's SIDE EFFECTS, but the financers didn't want her for the role. She has been fired and replaced by Rooney Mara. Now I get if they wanted someone more experienced, but the way it was reported it seemed like they thought she would be bad. What would make them think that? Has she done anything wrong?

She's Keanu Reeves with breasts.

The Town is a bad movie.

Honestly I don't understand the hate. I thought she was great in The Town and did the best she could in Green Lantern. Plus she's great-looking. To each his own, though...

I doubt she's done anything wrong, she was good in The Town and well, Green Lantern is the last movie she's coming off of and Rooney Mara is coming off The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, so maybe they're just trying to get a name that just came off a pretty well received movie, over someone who was in Green Lantern. Just my 2 cents.

i wasnt a huge fan either. but pretty much every actor makes bad movies. her acting wasnt a problem there.

@Rorie: agreed

You might be thinking of January Jones.

People confuse her for Blake Edwards and can't forgive him for that shitty Pink Panther sequel they shot around Peter Sellers death.

If I was financially backing a Steven Soderberg film, I would kind of want to play the field if my first option was Blake Lively, too. She was "okay" in The Town; that's the only nice thing I can say about her. She's not terrible, but if Rooney Mara was available -- someone who is on the rise after The Social Network and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo -- I'd take Mara.

"Blake Lively? The very old director known for Breakfast at Tiffany's who died last year?" -- No one.

Sorry, I'm being a dick, but I don't think anyone confuses those two.

Alright, so I'll go out on a limb: I actually thought she was really, really good in the town, like to a degree where I thought it might be a breakout role. The hospital scene she had with Jon Hamm was really great. I don't think she's the next Meryl Streep, but I thought she really embodied a lot of the pathos and sadness that embued her character in that scene, in that she had a really difficult choice to make under duress and made it reluctantly, perhaps without knowing the consequences. I'd need to see it again to make a final determination on her, though.

Personally, I hope to see her in more stuff.

I liked her in The Town as well. I've only seen her in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movies and Gossip Girl (all terrible movies & shows but my wife has a strange addiction to Gossip Girl). She's definitely an attractive actress and not the worst in Hollywood right now either. I think other people have hit the nail on the head that Rooney Mara is the "it" girl right now and they want to cash in while they can. I'm sure stuff like this happens in Hollywood all the time though we don't hear about it usually.

I'm largely indifferent towards Lively. I'll alacritously admit that I'm a fervent fan of The Town, but her performance in the film left me largely uninfluenced on her aptitude as an actress. But, she is comely, though.

Blake Lively sounds like the protagonist of an enemy spy in the 'No One Lives Forever' universe. I still can't believe it's a real name.

I didn't know anyone had anything against Blake Lively. Can't say i've ever paid much attention to her.

Blake Lively is one of my favourite actress. She's so stunningly beautiful and is a great actress when given the right material. I loved her in The Town and Green Lantern. I've seen people give her a lot of trash talk and slating her for no real reason apart from people who don't like Gossip Girl or just because she dated Leonardo DiCaprio or some other stupid reason like that.

The report of "financers backing out because of her" or that they "didn't want her" is probably just a rumour made up to stir trouble, it generally is 90% of the time. It's more than likely scheduling conflicts or something.

I like Rooney Mara, don't get me wrong, but from what I've heard about the film and it's plot, I'd much rather see Blake in the role.

i think it really was the financer's who caused this one to happen. It is highly unlikely Lively would pass up on a role this good.

Maybe it is, we'll never know, a lot of the celebrity 'news' we get is falsified and when Scheduling conflicts happen, it's not the actor who can chose what to do, it's all about the contract they sign and when they signed it.

yeah. but at least most people on screened seem to agree that they don't hate her.

Good! :D - Blake's got some good projects coming out within the next year anyway, so this won't be a big dent in her career.
