With the bevy of great quotes out there it is difficult to pin one down.

However, I'd have to say my favorite quote in a movie is:

"Fuck it Dude, let's go bowling" -The Big Lebowski

A safe answer from a safe movie, I know, but I really dig it.

I apologize if this thread has been done before.

Gonna have to give it to this one, from V for Vendetta:

"People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people."

Also, It doesn't qualify as a quote, but that entire speech where V goes crazy with the alliteration is brilliant.

Inigo Montoya The Princess Bride

"Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."

From The Devils:

"I'll see you in hell!"

To which, the incomparable Oliver Reed replies, "walking on a living pavement of aborted bastards, no doubt!"

It's better in context.

I also love the dialogue exchange in The Outlaw Josey Wales that ends with Clint Eastwood proclaiming that "dyin' ain't much of a livin'."

Any conversation that involving Anton Chigurh in No Country for Old Men. Seriously, the Coen Brothers know a thing or two about dialogue.

@mylifeforAiur: Indeed they do. Miller's Crossing features all their best stuff, IMO.

"Forget it, Jake. It's Chinatown..."

Enigmatic yet perfect. Just like me.

Hells yeah! Amazing film.

"Why do I fall in love with every woman I see who shows me the least bit of attention?" (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind)

"Come with me if you want to live." (Terminator) There are probably hundreds of great ones from action films, like "Yippee Ki Yay...".

I'm going to cheat a little bit with my favorite line from Futurama. "When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all".

From Big Trouble in Little China:

"When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, and he looks you crooked in the eye and he asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail."

I'm not sure what my actual favorite is, but I've always loved James Stewart's line to Donna Reed in Frank Capra's It's a Wonderful Life.

"What do you want, Mary? Do you want the moon? If you want it, I'll throw a lasso around it and pull it down for you. Hey! That's a pretty good idea! I'll give you the moon, Mary."

It's not my favorite Capra movie, but I find the line very sweet and wondrous. It stuck with me because it's so romantic but in a very common manner.

Now as for ones I use myself more often, I find myself using "Somebody's always giving me guns" from 1946's The Big Sleep starring Humphrey Bogart. Whenever I pick up a lot guns or some loot in a video game, that line pops back into my head.

Come to think of it, there are a lot of Bogart ones I like.

  1. "When a man's partner is killed, he's supposed to do something about it. It doesn't make any difference what you thought of him. He was your partner and you're supposed to do something about it." ~ The Maltese Falcon (1941)
  2. "We didn't exactly believe your story, Miss O'Shaughnessy. We believed your 200 dollars. I mean, you paid us more than if you had been telling us the truth, and enough more to make it all right." ~ The Maltese Falcon (1941)
  3. "Inside of us, we both know you belong with Victor. You're part of his work, the thing that keeps him going. If that plane leaves the ground and you're not with him, you'll regret it. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life." ~ Casablanca (1942)

@McGhee: Big Trouble in Little China is one of the greatest films in cinema history, I don't care what anyone says. And imminently quotable. "You people sit tight, hold the fort and keep the home fires burning. And if we're not back by dawn... call the president."

Yes! It's definitely in my top 5 all time favorite movies.

"You gonna pull those pistols or whistle Dixie?" - The Outlaw Josey Wales

"Reckon I'm right popular. You a bounty hunter?"

"A man's got to do something for a living these days."

"Dyin' ain't much of a living, boy"

- The Outlaw Josey Wales

"Kansas was all golden and smelled like sunshine."

"Yeah, well, I always heard there were three kinds of suns in Kansas, sunshine, sunflowers, and sons-of-bitches."

-The Outlaw Josey Wales.

One my favorite films ever and it has so many great lines all perfectly delivered by Clint Eastwood. Easy one of the best westerns ever made.

"Get busy livin', or get busy dyin'"(Shawshank Redemption)

OR

"That is a giant cock."(Boogie Nights)

Both are equally philosophical.

"This is how it works. Anybody doesn't wanna fly with me anymore, this is your port of harbor. There's a lot of fine ways to die. I'm not waiting for the alliance to choose mine...That's my theme now. So I hear a word out of any of you that ain't helpin' me out or taking your leave, I will shoot you down."
---Captain Malcolm Reynolds.
One of my favorite moments in the whole movie because

SPOILER WARNING: Click here to reveal hidden content.
Mal kind of loses his cool and realizes the steps he has to take to do what he has to do. It's a great moment.

Of course there's always:
Operative - "You believe this is the right thing to do?"
Mal - "Yes"
Operative - "And you're willing to die for that belief?"
Mal - "I am."
Operative goes for his gun, but Mal pulls his and shoots first.
"But that ain't exactly plan A."

So many great ones from that show and that movie, but those are a couple of favorites

Always liked this one from Goldfinger:

James Bond: Do you expect me to talk?

Auric Goldfinger: No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die!

I love that episode so much. One of my favorite commentaries on religion ever.
