What movies do you consider perfect

Well not really perfect there is no such a thing as a perfect movie, but what movies do you think are perfect just the way they are and you won't change anything about them. For me it's Shaun of the Dead, I don't think there is anything that you can take out or change without hurting the movie, every joke in the movie works, and the editing and sound design are just superb.

I have a fairly recent example but I believe it will induce some moans so I'll go with my number 2:

Goodfellas. Also happens to be my favorite movie of all time. From the beginning roots of why Henry Hill wanted to be a gangster (Respect) to how things got out of hand when investment monopolies and drug trades got involved and the final third act depicting this gangster giant falling from grace and looking like a schmuck cokehead. I think the movie gloriously idealizes what was great about being a gangster but also shows that it never ends well. I also love the changing environment. Even though the movie was made in the 90s it really felt like each decade was shot in that decade. From the 50s big cars and simple clothing design to colorful 70s era and ending in the really lame cheesy look of the 80s. Everything about the movie was top notch, definitely Scorsese's best film.

The first example I was going to do was The Social Network but probably too recent to mention.

Hmm...
  1. Casablanca ~ great performances, great cinematography, great story, and some quotable dialog even though its been nearly 70 years.
  2. A Hard Day's Night ~ good songs and very funny, witty, charming performances by the fab-four.
  3. My Mad Godfrey ~ great screwball comedy with performances that balance elegance and zaniness.
  4. His Girl Friday ~ Amazing dialog with top-notch delivery by the cast.  This is the standard for all similarly paced films and TV shows.
  5. The Asphalt Jungle ~ moody, dark, seductive crime drama that's completely absorbing.
  6. North by Northwest ~ An exciting and engaging film with standout performances by leads Grant, Saint and Mason.  Also a score that has become iconic.
  7. Annie Hall ~ Complex film of love and romance in New York.  Hilarious and poignant with wonderful little dialog moments that spark.
  8. Yojimbo ~ Amazing movie that's full of tension even though it has very little actual violence.
  9. Rocky ~ Dreary, gritty but hopeful movie about accomplishing ones goals, the outcome is unimportant.
  10. The Last Emperor ~ a bio-pic that is fascinating, dream-like occasionally, but startling "true" to the time and characters.  Epic but it never lags like a lot of other similar films.

Never.

The Last Emperor is why I hate Biopic movies. This is a movie about the Chinese emperor... spoken entirely in English... with a subplot about how the emperor has difficulty LEARNING ENGLISH.

Although your inclusion of Yojimbo is going to make me actually watch it since it's been sitting in my instant queue for months.

@Artie:  Of course it was in English, it was directed by an Italian after all. :-)

If you enjoy Yojimbo, be sure to check out Sanjuro afterwards.

Raiders of The Lost Ark - I've seen this movie so many times. It's my go-to "feel good" movie, because after I watch it I feel like the day has gone perfectly well. Love the characters and the plot and the action and I don't have a problem with any of it.

Casino Royale - This one took me a little while to warm up to, actually, since I really didn't like it when I first saw it (I was around 14), but it's one of my favourite movies now. Just the gritty, true-to-the-books revamp that Bond needed, full of tension and great performances from everybody involved.

A Bittersweet Life - Amazing, focused look into the isolated life experienced by a mid-ranking member of Korean crime family, the choices he makes and the repercussions that follow. Like the title says, it's very bittersweet, but it's also exciting, tense, and a damn good looking movie.

The Shawshank Redemption, Back to the Future, Toy Story, Monsters Inc. and The Lion King

The three animated films may be just be there for nostalgia, but they are all amazing pieces of cinema in my opinion.

To me it was The Princess Bride. It had the perfect balance of action and comedy. Plus it was the perfect casting. Above all this movie is my favorite for what it is. It is a timeless classic all should see.

Yes!! Jaws is the movie that got me into movies, and I do believe it's about as close to perfect as you can get. I'd say the same for Shawshank as well.

A bunch, but it mostly depends on what you're looking for. If you want comedy, I consider This is Spinal Tap perfection incarnate. Aliens is the perfect action movie. Movies like Pulp Fiction, Seven Samurai, Star Wars, and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly are the total package and films that can be called "perfect" without hesitation.

This is a tricky question that can have either a billion, or like two, answers depending on how you define "perfect" when it comes to film.
