The reason I saw this movie has a story , so bear with me.

Some friends and I were hanging out and we decided to get a pizza. So 3 or 4 of us got in a car and headed out to the pizza place while another handful of people stayed behind. The friends house we were all hanging out at was about a 20 minute drive from the pizza place and there just so happened to be a movie rental place right next door.

We got our pizzas and headed back to our friends house. Not 5 minutes after returning, the people at the house informed us that in our absence they had decided we should all watch a movie and would we mind going to rent one. We reluctantly agreed and since they hadn't specified what movie to get and also since we were a little miffed about being sent back out to get a movie from the place that was next door to the pizza place, we decided to get the worst movie we could find.

How could this not come from a bad movie? You may be surprised...

Having been a frequent movie renter at the time and spent quite a lot of time scouring the shelfs for movies, I had seen the back of Dog Soldiers quite a few times. If you haven't seen it, there is a particular image that just looks so ridiculous, you would have to assume that this movie is nothing less than the dumbest movie ever.

After agreeing to rent it, we brought it back to the rest of our friends and were quite surprised (and a little disappointed that our plan didn't work) to find the movie is actually pretty good. I mean, it's still silly and over the top, etc. but for the type of movie it is (B movie action flick about werewolves), it's pretty damn good.

Anyone else see and enjoy this movie?

I saw it years ago very early in the morning or late in the evening, it's fine if you want to see people getting mangled by werewolves without sifting through all the gloomy melodrama of Underworld. A pretty solid werewolf movie all in all with some awful yet fantastic lines of dialogue.

Cool movie.

Neil Marshall showed his mastery of intense, limited-location terror, which he perfected in his later masterwork THE DESCENT.

But DOG SOLDIERS is a kick-ass flick with a bunch of guys in bad werewolf costumes that still totally works.

Is that guy holding an assault rifle in one hand and a pistol and there's a fucking werewolf in the room?

Alright, definitely checking this movie out.

The werewolves in this look exactly like the ones in The Howling.Still, good movie even though there's no transformation scene in it which is sorta disappointing.

Great film. Neil Marshall is great, Centurions looks like it's going to be good

SHIT YEAH. A geordie having a fist fight with a werewolf makes this the thing fucking amazing. It looks cheesy but honestly its really funny and just damn good.

I thought the film was fantastic. Maybe that's just because I love practical effects (even if they look completely silly), have a massive Man-Crush on Kevin Mckidd and have a soft spot for any film that has a character called Cpl. Bruce Campbell.

I fucking love that film.

Rented it on a whim a few years ago and was pleasantly surprised. Story could use a little work, but as far as B movie horror goes, it was pretty damn good.

I like it when the dog is chewing the guys intestines.  Funny.

@StormtrooprDave:

According to Marshall in the directors commentary, it wasn't his intestines, but the bandages he wore.

Looks like intestines, though.

I've seen it around but didn't rent it because i've had bad experiences with "b-horror rented on a whim".
namely, they're not good and not campy, so it's just so boring it hurts.

Watched it on Sci-Fi and fell in love

Basically did the same thing you did and rented it thinking it would be a super cheesy, terrible movie. We got the super cheesy but everyone that watched it was pretty surprised at how good it was. I would say its better than a lot of the more popular horror movies even. I might have to go back and watch this now. I wonder if they have it at my local mom and pop rental store.

I also rented it based on the hilarity of the case and was rather surprised at how much I enjoyed the film. It also encouraged me to see the Descent when that was release so I'm glad I hired it.

This movie is a blast. My favorite part about it is that all the soldier characters who do die go down fighting, and don't die because they did something stupid.

Definitely one of the best werewolf movies out there, next to American Werewolf in London.  The characters are well developed, the horror is genuine, not cheap scares, and the plot intelligent.  Such a good movie.

I was certainly surprised by how good the film actually is.
