Should we keep the Hidden Gems forum?

I'm thinking maybe we should roll this up into General Discussion to keep things moving in there a bit more. I don't know what the ramifications of deleting a forum would be, but if anyone feels strongly about it, let me know in this thread. It wouldn't happen anytime soon, regardless.

I'm all for the incorporation of the two forums. I mean, unless it would cause some kind of greater issue that I'm not aware of. And, seeing as how Screened is still young and inexperienced--but without a doubt auspicious--, it'll probably be in the website's favour if we could more easily funnel threads into the more active forums.

I like hidden gems in theory, but no one really gets onto it that much. So it's probably best to get rid of it, and general discussion is still a good place to share my enjoyment of some obscure films.

Hidden Gems should stay. With a name like that, wasn't that forum designed to get less traffic anyway? Even if the general forum gets several times the traffic, I'd hate for a passionate advocate of a lesser-known film to be buried under an avalanche of 'OMG teh Dark Night is AWESOME' posts. Leave the the Hidden Gems post for those that have reached the end of their Netflix queue and are thinking "Hmmmm, I wonder what I should watch now?"

I completely forgot about the hidden gems forum. I usually just go off the very bottom of the homepage for forum discussions and it doesn't come up much.

Hidden gems could make a great feature for the site, where people suggest some hidden gems and write about them, and then a whiskey staff watches to see if they agree with the community member. Maybe the community would write 200-500 words on why they think it's worth seeking out, and then 3 staff members/freelancers choose one community entry each, watch it and write a few sentences about whether they agree or disagree and then publish it as a story. It could definitely bring up some lost films, the kind that I'm always interested to find.

You'd have to be careful not to insult people's opinions I guess, but for people who are just learning balanced criticism skills it could be immensely useful to them too. With Netflix going worldwide, a lot of films could be accessible to a lot of people too. I kind of like this idea, it gets rid of a bit of 'dead' weight and funnels the juicy bits into screened content with not a huge amount of time investment from staff members!

I think it makes sense to keep it around. The board may not get updated as often, but most of the content in there is evergreen. If it gets mixed in with the general posts, most people will never see the threads.

It needs its own forum. It may not be used often but threads will be mixed in with other threads and then we might get quite a few duplicate threads.
