If you want to talk about Hidden Gems, then The Wind that Shakes the Barley is the very definition of the term. The Wind that Shakes the Barley is a 2006 Irish independent film focusing on early 20th century Ireland and the political turmoil it faces. The film focuses primarily on the British occupation of Ireland, and then goes on to take a glimpse into the Irish Civil War. It follows the story of two brothers who become members of the IRA (Irish Republican Army) seeking Irish independence. Cillian Murphy plays the younger of the two brothers who while at first isn't sure about fighting the oppressive British, goes on to become one of the local group's most prominent members alongside his brother. The film is mostly considered a War drama, but it has a strong structure to it with many other themes and motifs. It is Ireland's highest grossing independent film of all time. It was a great find by my Netflix recommendations and has easily become one of my favorite movies over night. Definitely worth a watch.

Not exactly hidden but certainly a great film. Its been a while since I've seen it but it had a fairly unbiased and realistic portrayal of both wars. I liked the small scale view it took and didn't focus on DeValera or Collins but just on the regular people that fought in both wars.

Yeah good film, one of Ken Loach's best. I don't think you can class a Palme d'Or winner as a hidden gem though :)
