I went into this movie blind. Well actually, my wife told me she rented Unstoppable - bless. Anyway.

I read that Unthinkable went straight to DVD, I wonder if it cut to close to the bone for those in Washington. Whatever the reason, this is one commendable movie.

The premise lies at our moral compass. How far can or should we go to save lives. Torture as a necessity or a barbaric act.
Samuel L. Jackson is a "torture expert", given the task of obtaining the location of three bombs from a terrorist prisoner, by any means necessary. The movie plays out beautifully, allowing its characters to actually vilify Mr jackson while showing  benevolence  towards a prisoner on the verge of killing millions. Unthinkable does a good job of not forcing an opinion down our throats and allows the viewer to come to thier own conclusion.

There is a suprising lack of tension in the first half of the movie but once Samuel L. Jackson decides to do the Unthinkable, the last 3rd of the movie becomes pure adrenaline pumping gold.
Unthinkable is a bare bones,  "unsanctimonious" thriller with an inherently compelling premise and an ending that does'nt spoon feed its audience. A perfect recipe in my book.

Get this movie watched people!

This seems like something I should check out. Any idea why it was released straight to DVD? Production problems or distribution issues maybe?
The cast seems sufficiently strong enough to at least make it marketable.

It's a mixed bag kind of a film. On one hand, you have an intriguing and thought-provoking concept, but on the other hand, you have a film that certainly lacks any halfway decent acting (besides Sheen). The film also over-extends itself in my opinion.

@mylifeforaiur:

I agree. The acting, in particular, Jackson and Moss is awful.

 It could have been something special with some good performances thrown in, however, for me, I still appreciated the effort.

 I have to completely disagree. I found very little in the film redeeming , except for this one scene where they actually say the name of the movie in conversation in the cheesiest way possible.
