Any budding filmmakers?

I've just made a short film for my course. It's for Law, not a film school, but I'm quite pleased with the way it's turned out.

You can check it out at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtY2EyozwXE

Are there any budding filmmakers out there? Which films or filmmakers inspire you?

Goddammit I thought you were Alex!

Me! I study film, some of my shorts can be found here, they're in spanish so I doubt many of you will actually want to watch them.

As far as inspirations go, the biggest for me are Kurosawa, Woddy Allen and Chaplin. Those are the people whose footsteps I try to follow when I write and make a short film.

I will be, one day. Got myself a camera and mic, so I'll get to the making of short films soon. I write screenplays though, for fun. Just written a cool sci-fi script thing, which I'd make if I had $50 million. But I don't, so it's all for the fun of it; very enjoyable!

I'm studying film/tv production. I don't have much to show for it, but I have written a couple of shorts and I currently intern at a company that runs a radio show.

Oh, don't you fret, I'll let you all know when I have something of value to show.

@Tylea002: That's really cool! It's all good practise. Is that something you'd want to go into as a career? I love writing too :)

@Tomrock: I'd love to do it for a career. It's not likely, but it's a nice dream. So for now I just do it because it's enjoyable on it's own.

@Tylea002: That's awesome. Well if you love something enough and you work hard at it there's absolutely no reason why you can't make a living from it! Just as long as you don't get into the mindset that you're not good enough, or that screenwriting is some exclusive club. The way I see it, there are thousands of working screenwriters and they all managed to get into the industry so why shouldn't we?

Heh, there's hella reasons why you can't make a living from it, unfortunately; actual screenwriting that you get paid for bears little resemblance to writing for fun - actual screenwriting generally involves being handed instructions from producers and putting them in an order. Unless you can make independent films with your own funding; which is damn near impossible. That said - I'm still gonna try to do that :P, because there's a tiny chance it'll work.

Do you write stuff? Anyone else on screened got scripts sitting around? People should upload and share them, be a fun thing to do for the community.

@Tylea002: I finished the first draft of a screenplay last year but I've had my final year of university to I haven't been able to go back to it. I've finished my last exams now though so I can't wait to get back to it! I have a notepad full of notes and ideas that I've made over the year for other screenplays, it's going to be a busy summer :)

The common rule around here is that they have to be on IMDB. It's simply a way from everyone adding anyone who's ever started making a film in their backyard.

@FinalDasa: Yeah, I deffo don't mean to suggest clogging up a database for hobby projects; but a forum thread seems like a great place for creative-types to share their short films/youtube stuffs/scripts etc. etc. Just celebrate people's love for film and whatnot.

@Tylea002: Oh certainly, for some reason I thought someone wanted to allow budding filmmakers to the wiki.

I've actually done some independent filmmaking before, haven't for a while since I no longer have a computer with Final Cut Pro on it though which makes editing a b word. Still have the camera for it though.

By the way, to all you young budding filmmakers, you need to watch this movie called Official Rejection, which is a documentary about two budding filmmakers who are working their way through the festival circuit, it will really teach you how to deal with a lot of the unexpected stuff that comes with making movies.
