Yes! it's finally here, the biggest event of the year when it comes to Film, the 84th Academy Awards. And I cannot believe it's been exactly a year since my first Cherry's Choice blog post!

First off, let me just say, I was pretty disappointed with the fashion this year, there were no particular looks I thought "Wow" and to contrast with that, they were no terrible terrible looks I just 100% hated. But I'm judging them all anyway! Enjoy!

Best Dressed

Milla Jovovich in Elie Saab Couture

It was Milla's first time at the Oscars and she didn't let anyone forget her. She was one of the first on the carpet and I just thought she looked absolutely stunning from head to toe. She brought back the vintage Hollywood-starlet look and did it very very well. The hair, the make-up and even the dress was all flawless. This Elie Saab dress gives her an excellent silhouette and the jewellery completed the look.

#2 Best Dressed

Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford

White was definitely the colour of the night and Gwyneth Paltrow took the crown for being the Ice Queen. This dramatic dress certainly turned heads. I'm sure a lot of people won't like it, but she's wearing a cape! you can't get more chic than that. The hair is very matronly, but it just works, she kept herself bare and allowed the dress to do all the talking ... and just look at that bracelet, need I say more? A dramatic outfit that she pulled off. Well done Gwynnie!

Worst Dressed

Judy Greer in Monique Lhuilier

Well, I think I'd like this dress in another event, maybe the SAG awards but for the Oscars? Hell no Judy. It's a dress with a very high neckline and so it would look so much better if she pulled her hair up in a tight up-do and showed off that beautiful long neck of hers. The red hair is a pretty big clash with the silver too. It's a pretty 'edgy' dress, so maybe a thick eyeliner would've made it look good. A nice-ish dress that would've gave her a great look if she just followed those points.

#2 Worst Dressed

Anna Faris in Diane von Furstenburg

This was just too much black. It completely disguised her beautiful figure. Maybe if there was a belt in the middle, just to separate all that black then I'd like it more. And the aged dress with that soccer mom hair does not go well together. A bad fashion choice Anna.

Most Surprising

Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton

I was pleasantly surprised by Michelle William's choice of outfit. I expected her to come out in a big, frumpy girly outfit complete with pictures of an animal printed on it, but this is a beautiful, mature choice by the talented actress. The colour looks great on her and it's a complicated silhouette outside of her comfort zone. I love it. Definitely up there with the best dressed of the night.

Most Disappointing

Emma Stone in Gambattista Valli Couture

What was she thinking? Emma Stone has been killing it at the award shows this past year and has been looking flawless at every red-carpet but the one that matters the most .. she just tanked. It's a beautiful colour on her skin, but it clashes with her red hair. That neck bow does her no justice, it can't be comfortable at all and all that frumpy, baggy material is just hiding her petite little body.

Rising Fashionista

Li Bingbing in Georges Chakra Couture

She's a huge star in Asia and is set to hit it big in America and Europe too and she's certainly turning heads in the fashion world. Li Bingbing, the future Resident Evil star, looked immaculate in this beautiful mermaid gown. She showed the America's how it should be done. The hair was perfection, the make-up was so elegant and the whole outfit was incredible, I loved the sheer detail panels in the side. 10/10 - And you would never be able to guess she was 39 years old! - today actually .. HAPPY BIRTHDAY LI BINGING!

Fashion Therapy

Shailene Woodley in Valentino Couture

I actually like this dress, well, it's Valentino so of course I do! but Shailene is 20 years old, her recent fashion choices (including this one) just aren't age-suitable. She should start dressing more her age, especially since all the exposure from The Descendants is making her into a rising, huge star!

Other Looks

Jessica Chastain in Alexander McQueen

This is a beautiful, dramatic gown by McQueen and Jessica pulls it off very well. I loved the detailing and the way her hair just flows beside her.

Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace

I was very disappointed with this. It's just an awkward silhouette, the asymmetrical style was just not doing it for me. Of course she looks beautiful, it's Angelina Jolie, and she could make a paper-bag look great. But it's not one of her best looks by far.

Louise Roe in Black Halo

The structure of this dress is just incredible. I loved the formality mixed with the edginess of the shape structures and when it comes to accessories and style, the fashion journalist and presenter knows just how to work it.

Kristen Wiig in J.Mendel

She looked so beautiful in this light, feathery gown by J Mendel. I loved the colour on her and the beach waved hair completed everything so gracefully.

As you know, I can't fit ALL of the looks of the night, but feel free to disagree or agree with any of my choices or you can even add your own! you know where to comment. (: xoxo

EM-MA STONE! EM-MA STONE! EM-MA STONE! *ahem*

Seriously though, I see what you're talking about in regards to your critique of Emma's dress. I didn't get the bow thing either.

No one dress or outfit was that bad this year I thought. Certainly some misses but nothing ugly or appalling.

These blogs are becoming more enjoyable than the award shows themselves.

Emma Stone looks like a Christmas present with that bow. Best Christmas Ever!

Also, no Zoe Saldana? :(

I thought that Judy Greer's dress looked a lot like a skyscraper. She could have had Gary Beach's dress in The Producers. She could have been the Chrysler Building!

She wasn't there was she? I know she was at the Vanity Fair after party, but she wasn't at the main event.

Yeah, the Grammy's were way more interesting, fashion-wise, this year. Everyone I saw, I just went and said "Well...you look nice." I think Kristen Wiig and Jessica Chastain looked gorgeous, but those are really the only standouts to me.

AND UGGIE HE'S SUCH A GOOD BOY

WHO'S A GOOD BOY? UGGIE IS A GOOD BOY

I don't know. But Emma Stone and disappointing should not be pared together.

@CherryBomb: I agree with , my first thought after the Oscars were over were, "Can't wait till CherryBomb recaps all the fashion!" Far more reliable and interesting than the shows.

Urgh put that leg away Angelina! She looks so weird with it just sticking out.

Love all of your insights, Cherry. That's quite possibly the best I've ever seen Milla, too. On a side note, when I looked at Judy Greer's gown, I wanted it for my Shepard in Mass Effect. It looks like something I should be able to buy on the Citadel. I think I personally would have picked Meryl Streep's gold toga from fashion house, Lanvin as the worst. Formless and baggy in all the wrong places, it was anything but flattering. Finally, I can't let one of your columns go by without adding a potentially overlooked starlet. This time, it's Miss Piggy in a design by Zac Posen. A sparkling ecru gown that recalls classic Hollywood, but with a fresh 21st century style.

I didn't think Meryl's was too bad, it was very age-appropriate and the colour is good on her, but yeah it's not a pretty dress at all, but Meryl's never been known for her style, thank god, haha (:

But Miss Piggy looked beautiful (: and Kermit, so handsome!

Nice blog!

There didn't seem to be any real stand-outs - either fantastic or terrible. Obviously, the Jolie leg thing was kind weird - is that just the style of the dress or is she consciously sticking it out there? Also, Chastain's hair looks flippin' amazing!!

I guess this just proves I'm horrible at fashion, cause I actually liked Judy Greer's look.
