Depression movies!

Heyyyyy everybody. I'm choosing to put this in the off-topic forum because while it does relate to movies, it's really more of a personal thing. So you're already probably like "who gives a fuck" but here I go. Basically, lately I have been legitimately depressed. I'm not sure if I have actual chemical depression, but there's this thing with a girl that has just really, really bummed me out. I won't go into details, and I'm not here for support or anything, but what I am looking for is good depression movies. Not necessarily a comfort film, like Forgetting Sarah Marshall or Princess Bride or something (although I will almost assuredly be watching Forgetting Sarah Marshall multiple times in the next few weeks), but movies that perhaps deal with depression or are better viewed in a depressed mood. I watched Adventureland today, and that really did a lot for me. I thought it was fantastic. I'm also considering watching Antichrist, and Melancholia when it comes to my city. So since I'm already going from Motolla to Von Trier, I'm clearly not looking for anything specific. Just... Something. I'm not sure really. Some kind of input would be nice. Just as some background, some of my favorite movies are World's Greatest Dad, Oldboy, The Fountain, Donnie Darko, Lost in Translation, and... eh I dunno. Star Trek. Fuck it, why not. I like the newest Star Trek movie a lot. Sure. So I like a bunch of different kinds of movies. I'm really open to anything, as long as it is a movie that would in some way enrich the life of a depressed person. Any suggestions that anyone has are welcome and appreciated. I really need something to do when I'm not playing Skyrim haha. Alright, thanks to anyone who read this whole thing, fire away with suggestions.

I always watch Rushmore when I'm feeling down.

Lars And The Real Girl is pretty good, even if the main character is more mentally ill than depressed, probably.

maybe try some brooding film noir like Double Indemnity or In a Lonely Place. They're loaded with a certain moodiness that might appeal to you.

I always liked Unbreakable for some reason. Bruce Willis' character has a level of melancholy throughout most of the film that I always liked.

You might appreciate It's Kind of A Funny Story. Kid is depressed; goes in a psychiatric ward. Zach Galifianakis is there (but not his usual moron role), and then mostly funny and touching stuff happens. Also, though you've probably already seen this one, The Life Aquatic. Maybe it was just me but the whole movie felt pretty depressing whilst simultaneously being hilarious. And the end is pretty amazing.

Kind of strange, but whenever I'm feeling down, Raiders of the Lost Ark is usually my go-to movie.

@Rorie: I so agree with this, I love this movie.

Have you watched Lady Vengeance? I pretty much cried all the way through The Pursuit of Happyness. Grave of the Fireflies? (oh god, that is a sad film) A History of Violence?

Girl Interrupted? I know its a bit of a rough one but it always helped me to sort through issues... if you want stuff to cheer you up I would avoid these films but then if your like me and need to see what is in your head played out.. try stuff like Donnie Darko.. its dark and depressing but has a kind of supernatural element that helps you separate.

It's Kind of a Funny Story is a great movie when depressed. I think that would be good. Also, personally, I like to watch Trollhunter. That move just puts me in a great mood for some reason. And, if you're into it, Pride and Prejudice. Because it's great.

I went through the same thing about 6 or 7 months ago and weirdly enough Hamlet with David Tenant out of no where cured me.

Try Wristcutters: A Love Story. I don't know why, just try it.

I definitely agree with this. Also,as mentioned above, most Wes Anderson movies, Lars and The Real Girl, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

Why would you want to watch depressing movies when you're depressed? Seems stupid.

Even so, my pick would be Synecdoche, New York. Also, ashogo is spot on with In a Lonely Place. It's a great film.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! I've actually seen a lot of the movies that have been mentioned here. But there are a few that I have not, and I will give those a try in the near future. Although luckily I'm actually feeling pretty good right now anyway. I love the screened community. Thanks.

DO NOT WATCH ANTICHRIST

As a person with clinical depression, I assure you, it delves into depression so much that it makes you feel it. You start to feel like you are in an extremely depressive episode. And the contents of the film make it seem like you will never get out of it.

DON'T DO IT. THIS IS THE ONLY FILM I WILL NEVER WATCH AGAIN.
