Finally I finished the three books of the Hunger Games, I love all the books but I expected another end. My favorite book was the second, there is action, love, and a lot of other things but Im not going to spoiled the book. On september of next year the second movie is going to be at the cinemas. Still a lot but it will be worth.

Think i'll read the first one and then wait for the movie, although that didn't work out for Game of Thrones.

I saw the movie first and just started reading the first book. It's interesting that I can already see some of the differences and what was cut out for the movie but so far, I don't think either is necessarily better than the other.

@alidade443: Nice! Just got them for my Kindle so I'll work through them over the summer at some point. Just one thing I noticed - they appear to be written in the present-tense (which is unusual for me), is that something that is distracting or does it become less noticeable as the story progresses?

I read all three and in my opinion they got progressively worse as the series went along, the best part of the first one was the arena segments, and by the third book I thought they relationship was just being overdone. Did anyone else find the defenses in the third book to be stupid, I don't know it really ticked me?

@skidd: Oh skidd. Oh poor, poor skidd. Let me tell you straight that I didn't like these books, and the main reason was that first-person point of view that you mentioned. There are some really potentially interesting ideas in the Hunger Games series, but the fact that we only experience them through the idiot asshole that Katniss is, makes everything almost unbearable.

Also, the "love triangle" is dull and aggravatingly pointless. And the third book completely implodes on itself.

Good luck! ;)

@gangly: Haha, wow! That's quite a damning appraisal! I'll give them a go and see how they turn out, but from what you're saying the narrative style might well remain an issue for me.

@gangly: Are there any good love triangles in movies? (serious question)

Well, I try to be as honest as possible. ;) About the writing, it's less that the style was an issue (although there were many annoying, "then I got dressed, and then I opened the door, and then I walked down the hall.." things which I guess is a hard necessity of the first-person), and more that the issue was Katniss herself. If we were able to see the exact same world and story from another character's POV, or even an omniscient third-person kinda thing, I think it could have been way better.

Absolutely! The trope itself isn't bad, it's just that it's also an easy way to infuse "drama" in your story, so I think a lot of young adult books are incorporating it. Especially after it was so wildly successful with all the "Team Edward/Team Jacob" whatever. Here's just a few flicks that got it right: Casablanca, Pretty in Pink, Rushmore, The Graduate, and lots more!

The Hunger Games was not a very good book IMO. It was sooo awkward and Twilight-y...
