A (somewhat drugged) suggestion.

Greetings all, just something I was thinking about with the quests.

So I was in hospital during the oscars week and was bummed to find out I missed a limited quest set (I did have someone checking for me while they kept up with my emails, but she only thought to keep checking GBs quest system) and was thinking about limited edition quests.

So my (vague, sketchy, still-on-painkillers)idea was some sort of payment system where members could use their hard earned wiki points to pay for something like 'reopen personal quest set for 24 hours at a second chance of completing it' kind of thing.  Keep in mind I only mean reopen it for the payee, not just finish it outright (though you know, I guess with some quests it's almost the same thing.)  Maybe an even higher value amount for outright finishing it? Maybe not?

Also I thought it might help entice new members to contribute to the wiki, perhaps more than they would have.  Though I guess that might lead to increased wiki abuse and no-one wants that.

Thoughts? I don't mind if you tell me I'm crazy, I'd probably believe you right about now. Earlier this morning I spent 15 minutes contemplating the merits of adding cooked pasta to my jelly (jello for all my US siblings) to add some substance. (Also, try it, it's not too bad.)

PS. I totally get this is probably almost impossible to implement. But hey, suggestions never hurt right?

PPS. Or real money, I'd be down for that too :D. Like $5-10 a quest set.

Yeah, this is the main problem. I like the idea of having wiki-based incentives, but unfortunately it often just leads to wiki abuse and point gaming. Rorie organised a contest a while back, which involved filling out a wiki page, but it didn't end too well...Shame, would've been nice to see these sorts of things introduced to encourage more users to work on pages

@skidd:
I was thinking maybe the points threshhold for editting without moderation should be raised, but even that wouldn't really get rid of the problem. Sadly there's no perfect plan.

@DizzyMedal: I could see a strong case for raising the points needed to make live edits, but it's a tricky one. The guys really want to encourage users to get involved in the wiki as much as possible - increasing the requirements could potentially scare off people from trying to reach any mark. Until they reconfigured points allocation over at GB (around 6 months after launch I think), getting to the 1000 points was a tough challenge...as you rightly point out, it's extremely difficult to get the balance right - the guys really do a great job.

Yeah, it would be really nice if people were trustworthy and we could get rid of the points system altogether.
