Do people still do quests?

Just noticed a new quest set and realised I hadn't done any for ages.  I wonder if any staff can tell us if the trend for these is the same, more or less?  As well as being a bit of fun, is their main goal to push up page views?

I certainly still do.  I think there's a pretty regular crowd of people I see in the quest forums that still do, as well.

Beyond being a page view bump, there's a couple of other serious benefits I've seen for participating in questing over the last year.  One is expansion of the wiki and to a lesser extent, promotion of the hard work that many  screened denizens have put in to it.  This may sound similar to page views, but since the wiki is user powered, there's an important distinction in providing incentive to help this endeavor grow, and in giving users the impression that their 670 point bomb on Aston Martin will ever be seen...ever.

More importantly is the sense of community the quests drive, even if in a limited number of people.  One of the most fun moments for me in the first year of screened was the ridiculous level of cohesion it took within the community for many of us to pull off the Stalker Status quest.  Beyond the initial connection, many of us that struggled together on that venture still follow one another, still care what each other has to say, and have had many wonderful conversations thanks to that experience.

Also....they're just fun.

I am still doing them, they test my knowledge and I feel all powerful when I finish them!

Of course! They're good fun and a great incentive for users to get involved in the wiki and interacting with other people on the site. The only potential issue it can cause is spamming of the boards or point gaming, but thankfully it doesn't seem to be a big problem here on Screened.

Of course, I love them and love it when there is a new quest. I don't see why people hate them, they're fun but challenging.  The bump in page views also helps get those pages attention and their wikis get write ups.

Haven't actually been doing them lately. No fault on the people who make them, just not my thing anymore.

It fluctuates. I have periods I do them, and longer periods where I don't:)

I like them because they introduce me to new movies I might not otherwise have heard of, or at least gotten round to seeing. I I run themed movie nights for me and my friends quite regularly, and the themed quest sets are a great source of new ideas.

Yeah, but I still have trouble with the little fuckers, especially Highly Trained Professionals!

I haven't bothered for quite a while now, and I don't think I'm going to start.

Yarp the stalker one resulted in a very crazy day or two of some rather fun chatter and refreshing done by a group of rather dedicated people. Because of that day I must say that I still typically do a bunch of refreshes on a new person when I come across them just to help them along. I still do quests and there's only one I haven't been able to finish up other than the moderator one so I'm fairly well stocked in terms of questy achievements points.

Yep, I like the meta-game that arises from having such a robust wiki and trying to solve riddles using it. Also it sometimes brings up a page that should be filled out more, which can only better the site.

I try but the last few ones were really hard for me.

I still do the quests and I enjoy the challenge of them as well. Can't deny the fact I need a few hints now and again though.

@Badfilms: @Daemon: I certainly remember the Stalker Status quest as being a lot of fun.  Some of us ended up being a good wall-posting tag team to help users get that one (props have to go to skidd for being a great spam buddy).  I would like to see more of those community-based quests, which is a great way to make friends on the site.

By the way, if anyone needs help on a quest just hit me up.  I may not remember certain pages that are needed to unlock something from a quest 10 months ago, but I'll give it a go.  I really like the quests - keep them coming!

@StormtrooprDave: First and foremost, Quests are meant to be fun. They get people bouncing around the wiki, re-discovering things, finding out about other things for the first time; having a good time. Of course, this does mean more pageviews, there's no denying that, but it is not the driving force behind them by any means.

That said, we're always trying to improve. As one of the main people working on Quests, I'd love to see more folks doing them. Look below for some stats.

Totally open to suggestions! Are you guys into more thematic/event driven quests (e.g. new movie release coming out and a related Quest is put out, the Oscars, etc.) or more of the random type (we just feel like making a quest about every serious movie Robin Williams has been in)? I've been pushing forward on the more thematic/event oriented ones, but if they're not doing too well or aren't what you guys prefer I'm totally down to try something else.

EDIT: Getting an image upload error. will post when it's fixed.

@Daniel: As long as the quests keep coming on a fairly regular basis I don't really mind what form they take, just as long as they're fun, like you said.  The whole quest system is one of the things that sets Whiskey sites apart from others and I really enjoy them.
