Hey guys, I was wondering if you've ever had any bizarre brushes with fame. Just recently, Mark Whitacre (The guy that The Informant! was about) spoke at my school, which I found strange for reasons that are probably obvious.

Why hello there

With the recent release of Modern Warfare 3 and complaints about how its the same, why don't we hear the same complaint about movies like Mission Impossible,James Bond or something. Conversely what films have manged to make drastic changes over the franchises life span and stay popular.

I have heard it said that the faster pacing of movies is due to the advent of things like MTV and the internet. Do you guys tend to notice this being different in movies now compared to the movies of your youth?

Following the site for a while now and we really don't know much about the two of you other than Rorie loves puppies and Alex drums like no one's business. What do you do, for a hobby, when you aren't encompassed with movies/television?

So I just saw Groundhog Day for the first time last week and loved it for a great many reasons, one of those being its use of "I Got You Babe" throughout the movie as the first thing he hears when we wakes up each February 2nd. As a result I got to thinking what the best alarm music seen in movies were. Two other examples sprung to mind, one being of course Inceptions' usage of "Non, je ne regrette rien" and the other being Moon's use of "I am the one and only", both of which stick with me to this day for one reason or another. I was wondering if you had any other examples of memorable alarm music in movies, if there are any other than those 3 examples.

  • When do you think TV will catchup with today's youth, in terms of content delivery? Today's youth doesn't watch TV on TV anymore, the majority just download shows.
  • Is this the reason shows similar to Community face cancellation? The majority of their audience watches the show without being included in views for advertising money.

when is televised media's role to represent things accurately/responsibly? i recently watched a episode of Burn Notice (s05e16 if your interested) which completely falsified a lot about the island nation of Cayman (where i live), basically saying that we are a little island for drug dealers and wall street CEOs to hide their money and that the island is not sophisticated in any way. this is not the case at all and i personally find it offensive. it is possible that a substantial portion of the audience will see this and assume it is true, whats your view on this?

thanks

In movies like Enemy At the Gates and others the actors in the film use their natural accents even though they are playing Germans, Russians, and more (Jude Law played a rural Russian hunter turned sniper yet retained his posh British accent, Ed Harris used his American accent when he was playing a German, etc). I was wondering if this is an actual film making style or technique that is recognized or if it was just a decision by the director? Personally it draws me out of the experience of the movie at times, so I am not sure what this accomplishes unless the director was confident in their acting but not their dialect/accent work.

Do you think the next James Bond film will retain their Bourne-reactionary style (more focus on fisticuffs than gun play). While I think Craig has a lot of potential as Bond I am more excited for their choice of villain.

Love the site and the podcast. Keep up the good work.

Thanks

I saw Being Elmo when it came to a nearby college town and to be honest, I had my first good cry in quite some time. What are some movies that make you cry, and why?

Hey Guys,

I had a question for you after recently watching Dead Ringers. The amazing performance of Jeremy Irons as the the brothers Mantle made me wonder if you could recall any more memorable films where one man/woman plays multiple charters. The only other movie I can think of off the top of my head would be Peter Sellers in Dr. Strangelove.

Dear Rorie,

You have often bemoaned the lack of time for television viewing. Some time ago you have stated that you have watched

the whole run of "Mad Men" on Netflix. Does it take "Game of Thrones" being available in a similar streaming service for you

experience its sublime narrative? Will threats on your life "encourage" you to watch the series?(jk, don't call the FBI just yet) I would be ecstatic to read a

feature examining the series in context of genre television or just a discussion of the show between you and Alex over spoilery

plot points. I understand that you have a deluge of work that "literally" sits on your well shaped lap and have other more important commitments(i.e. an actual life).

But the upcoming holiday might give you free time to catch up on "Game of Thrones" and give me my "entitled" Rorie looks at Sean Bean being Sean Bean being Ned Stark.

Keep up the good work as always, and there are wolf puppies in the first episodes of the show, that is all.

Giant Bomb is coming up on their Game-of-the-Year deliberations. Any plans to have a Screened Best-Of Awards podcast or something similar? I think that many of us would enjoy it.

I watched the episode and it talked about the Caymans' appeal with it's unique financial/banking laws (mainly no names just account numbers are handled was the point made). I didn't see anything in the episode mention it's being a backwards civilization. Of course it's not like people watch spy shows to learn about other geographical areas.

What are some unusual films you've seen with your family, that aren't typical family fare genres? Thrillers?

For example, I took my family to TAKE SHELTER, a psycho thriller and they all loved it. It's a family drama, an apocalyptic thriller, a character study on mental illnesses, but we might be biased since my family is in the medical field so we can empathise how mental people are treated.

Hey guys! Something that's always annoyed me during the holidays has been how TBS runs a 24 hour marathon of "A Christmas Story". Even though I don't hate it, I'm not a particularly big fan of the movie, and I think a more entertaining movie could be shown it its place, if at least for one Christmas.

So my question for you is, if you could choose one movie (one family friendly and one that is not) to replace "A Christmas Story", what would it be? But 1). It has to be holiday related, and 2). It's can't be Die Hard or Die Hard 2.

Hey screenpups I wanted to know how you felt about the supposed scripts for Jurassic Park IV floating around. If you haven't heard about any of them there are two main ones I've heard about, albeit through second hand sources. The fist involves an ingen employed mercenary ho has a team of super intelligent velociraptors, which sounds like the plot to a late 90's Jurassic Park squad shooter to me.

The second is considerably stupider. basically a group of ingen's competitors go to the island and retrieve the DNA Nedry lost in the first movie. The major problem comes in that this movie takes place twenty years after the original and Nedry was told the DNA would expire after only a few days. But that's not the stupid part.

The stupid part is what they do with it. They make new genetic abominations with it, by combining dinosaur DNA, Dog DNA, and Human DNA. That's a plot the writers of SYFY original movies would be proud of. Here's a bit of concept art you should attach to the podcast page just so everyone can share in the stupidity of this plot:

Yup.
